Don't forget, he coached at literally the same time that Franklin had VANDY winning 8 or 9 games.

9 mill and job security is a hell of a thing to give up. Stoops has probably decided he hit a ceiling at UK, but he'll find out at A&M he just doesn't have it in him to coach anymore.

What kind of idiot would take a pay cut for a more difficult job?

Maybe bourbon took over his decision-making process if true.

I think Stoops at A&M will be like Mullen at UF

Decent, but winning decently at a mid tier program won’t translate to championships at a bigger program

A&M could have done a lot worse. There were no “home run hires” on the market. NONE. Ryan Day?

Dude has been at Kentucky so long people have forgotten 8 wins was an absolute ceiling for Kentucky. More than that, a pipe dream. He’s won 10 twice and has recruited relatively well considering its UK.

You weren’t getting Saban, Harbaugh, Day, Smart, etc. Handing it to some coordinator or G5 coach would have been a colossal mistake.

You could have gotten Elko or Fisch which would have made more sense.

You essentially are trading a 7-5 / 8-4 coach for an 8-4 / 9-3 one with maybe a 10-2 season sprinkled in if you catch a few breaks.

How is that much different than Jimbo again?

He built them up but they also peaked a couple years ago and went backwards the last two seasons.

But he’s still managed to have a winning record the last couple of seasons, even though they’ve taken a step back. I think that says something about the level Kentucky is now at. A disappointing season is still a winning season and bowl game.

In the last six years, Mark Stoops has two 10-win seasons and only one losing season (2020 Covid year).

Jimbo had zero 10-win seasons, and one losing season in his six years at A&M.

Stoops had a higher ceiling at Kentucky, and a similar floor. How high will his ceiling be at A&M? A couple of 10-win seasons within his first few years would be a big improvement over their last several hires.

247 saying Fisch was a verbal agreement as of Wednesday and that the team had been told it was going to be Fisch.

Are you implying Fisch would be a better hire? With 3 years of experience and a career record of 15-22?

Kentucky should go hire Jimbo for like $500k a year just to stick it to A&M twice

But I think that's the thing.

aTm is, at best, a mid-tier SEC team with Arkansas and Ole Miss (all-time rankings).

Yes, it is a step up from Kentucky.
