The fact Michigan is in the shitter right now has little to do with him leaving IMO.
If anything he probably relishes the chance to bring them back.

Hes not making a list of pros and cons here, its a do what makes me and the family happy kind of deal....

If Ryan Perilloux would have stayed out of trouble Les would have won 10 games those years. Having a freshman QB is a major curve ball to a program.

And if LSU had smelled the coffee brewing on Ryan Perilloux, they would have had another qb to take his place in case he did finally get kicked off the team. Anyone who ever hung around restaurants near the campus and saw RP expect to be fed for free could see the guy was no good. We are lucky he didn't do something to get us on probation.

Miles' dream job is Michigan
Michigan job is open
Michigan is his alma mater
Miles likes to wear jackets
Michigan understands him

Not to mention that there are plenty of indoor pools in Michigan, so his kids will not have to practice swimming in the yucky LSU lakes.

Miles is sitting on $4M per with a a 15M buyout AND one of the biggest assistant coach budgets in the country.

Is Michigan goimg to match all of that?

The state of Michigan was great when he was there and is now a welfare state with no future. Is that where you want to raise your children? Things change.

The defense was awful in 08, I'm not really sure how RP could have solved that problem.

I know there are tons of posts like this but I need special attention because I'm slow.

I applaud your honest attention whoring and agree with you.

There will be a meeting and Brandon will make Miles an offer he can't refuse.

If Skip was still AD, I'd say there's a chance Skip might persuade him to stay as he did in 2007. But I don't think Alleva can play the loyalty card, don't you wanna be here for decades like me card like Skip could. Besides, Alleva probably has fresh memories of boosters yelling in his ear to begin the coaching search after the Ole Miss and Tennessee debacles. I don't know for a fact that Alleva got such earfulls from powerful boosters but call it a strong hunch. He didn't send this shot across the bow at Miles after last season because boosters were calling him to sing Miles' praises.

I want to make it clear that LSU is committed to having a football program that regularly plays for championships.

LSU did not win a football championship in 2009, so there is room for improvement.

Add another one:

Michigan has not won a Rose Bowl since 1998. They used to win it regularly. If he wins at least 1 over the next few years, he will be considered a success. If he wins multiple Rose Bowls or a BCSCG, then he will be a Michigan LEGEND and can retire a happy man.

I look at it like this:

You started out working/interning your first 6 years at company X, a long standing and major player in the industry. They are the ones who made your career into what it is today.

Right now you're extremely happy at company Y, while not as old, it is currently one of the leaders.

You're going to be courteous and interview with company X no matter what.

add two things.

1. the fan base at LSU includes people who were within an inch of wanting to dump him for various clock issues and OC choice.
He knows this. He was on THIN ICE until the Tex A&M game.
He might even be fired by now if UTenn has 11 men on the field to end that game.
2. It will be a bitch to turn Mich around, and in the meanwhile, LSU has a shot at the big enchilada next year if Mett is the real deal, and a shot at the SEC championship even with JJ and JL and Mett all splitting time based on health and practices.

From what I understand, Miles did not plan on seeing out a whole rebuilding process at Mich. Would have taken 3-4 years to get it to the right level, and by that time Miles will be contemplating retirement.

Miles was just being courteous to Michigan and didn't want to publicly say no, just as another Mich alum (Harbaugh) did a week ago. Les still loves Mich, but he wants to finish his career at LSU.
