What was USM paying Fedora? Kirby was making around $750,000 a year, plus bonuses?

Just seems like the small programs are about to have to pay a lot more money to compete.

I think Fedora was making somewhere between 600k-750k. I can't remember exactly.

We do know Smart is not allowed to speak to the media without Sabans permission. Thats a fact.

Yeah - but dominate what? What little they got from tv packages and bowl tie ins surely will have to be reconsidered/re-negotiated with those teams leaving. Plus, they won't have the revenue from a championship game. I don't see the outlook for Southern Miss being good at all without moving to some other conference. I will say this, though. If Smart wants to be a HC and he can't find a job in a year like this, he must really suck in an interview.

Yep that is. That doesn't mean you have any clue on the inner workings of Bamas program and the relationship between Kirby and Nick.

does anyone?

he needs to prove himself alone before ppl start throwing around the label 'great'. Saban's disciples haven't been too impressive so far

Fedora was making around $750K but got incentives for winning C-USA.

No one is labeling him great, but people are already saying he'll be a bust.

Are we suppose to ban our coordinators/assistants from interviewing for/taking head coaching jobs?

I wonder if Kirby is getting the same, you need head coaching experience... Seems like it has gotten harder to go straight from a coordinator to a HC in BCS conferences...

Would be a good job for him. Which schools with Conference USA bring in? Troy, Arkie State, etc.?

Shows me how much faith the majors have lost in the Saban tree. Last year those 2 would have been offered much better jobs

Or just that big schools aren't keen on hiring coordinators with no HC experience after the latest round.

Teams are seeing UF as an example. Muschamp will be good, but it's an entirely different beast being a head coach and takes time to transition into that position for the first time.

If you notice, most teams are hiring HCs from smaller programs over coordinators from bigger ones, because the success rate seems to be better. Look at all the big name openings this year:

A&M: Sumlin
WSU: Leech
Arizona: Rich Rod
ASU: Graham
UCLA: Mora
Ole Miss: Freeze

MSU's falling off, UF's struggles under Muschamp, OSU under Fickell, etc. have scared some people off, especially when fans are looking for a proven winner.

You have cupcakes like Memphis, UAB, Tulane, etc...

Marshall, East Carolina, and Tulsa are the only decent teams left.

They're merging with the MWC

Unless Kirby just KILLS it at the interview, hr wont get that job. It will be either Anderson or Ellis Johnson.

I heard Kirby is gonna splurge on a $12 haircut for this. I'd be concerned.

Isn't CSU in the MWC? So could we see Smart vs McElwain going head to head? Tell me that would not be fun to watch for us Bama fans.
