It's time to admit + accept one thing - LSU is NOT a Top 5 job anymore.

Bring the downvotes but IDGAF. I've said this before. It's not about the talent, the recruiting, the facilities, fan support etc. It's about the BRAND. LSU's brand as a school, Louisiana's as a state, and Baton Rouge's as a city, is not an attractive brand. Add to that a completely irrational fanbase and it makes it hard to attract top coaching talent. I truly wish it wasn't the case but there's a reason that for the last 15 years or so now, NO top/elite coach has WANTED to coach for LSU. We got Miles and then we had to settle for Orgeron (who's dream job was LSU but who NO ONE else wanted as a head coach). It just so happened that those 2 guys were lucky enough and surrounded themselves with enough good coordinators and ELITE talent that they were then able to win a national championship. USC is an elite brand - I don't blame Riley for choosing USC over LSU either. It's not just about recruiting and winning, it's about what the coaches want to say about THEMSELVES.

Being the head coach at USC, Texas, Bama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan carries much more prestige with it than being the head coach at LSU. I'm going to be so ticked if we end up with a vanilla coach like Matt Campbell or Stoops. THe only ones who can save this thing now and elevate LSU's brand are Aranda, Fickell, or Rhule. ANyone else and this coaching search (and Woodward's reputation) will be considered a failure.

I agree. It has to be one of Fickell, Rhule or Aranda or we’re screwed.

It's not LSU it's Baton Rouge brother. It is Baton Rouge and the fact that we share a division with a Saban coached Bama. Once Saban leaves, LSU shoots to the top of everyone's list. It's stupid to not acknowledge the effect that his presence in the West has on the LSU job.

I love these type of posts. If LSU isn’t a top 5 job who is?

I don't think it's a top 5 job but it's a very good job

What's confusing about this post is that LSU's brand and positioning nationally has never been higher than it has been in the last 15 or so years. LSU as a coaching destination is probably at its peak.

The Orgeron situation was because Alleva pooped himself. Yea it sucks that Riley opted for USC but that doesn't mean LSU is gonna have to settle. There are still a lot of great options.

He’s right Baton Rouge is a run down city and LSU just hired a President that made his bones researching CRT. Nobody wants to come there.

Top 5 gets thrown around too much. Is LSU a top job right now? Prolly not. Does LSU have resources to get back? Yes. Reality is there are 14 (16 with OU/UT) SEC jobs that pay millions per year. Getting a coach is a gamble. You just got to get the best coach available and hope he can produce in our league.

Really?!? Like who? Other than the 3 I named above, who would you consider an elite hire??

It’s a top five job unless you have title 9 sanctions looming.

You are making a massive assumption that LSU offered a coach and lost him to another school… or they are completely incompetent. Neither of which is proven or known at this point.

A+ for the melt tho.
