this is ridiculous.

no, he is not elite. here is his class so far this year. 20 commits. one player inside the top 500 (number 415).

his class last year looked really good because he pulled 5 star DT Ed Oliver. or did he?

"Houston's been my leader probably since sophomore year," (Oliver) said.

in other words, the Houston native was leaning toward Houston long before Herman ever got there. source = nola.com

the other big name in that class was Tren'Davian Dickson, who actually signed with Baylor then bailed when Briles was fired for letting his team rape people.

so, is this bad? no, imo, for UH, its ok, but stop calling him an elite recruiter, theres no evidence at all to back that up.

heres every commit hes ever signed. 5 players were in the top 100, all at Ohio State. he was the primary recruiter for 3. the highest rated one - this guy - transferred to Texas Tech.

you want elite? here is the page for Frank Wilson. here is the page for Orgeron. Arandas page is here. he was the primary for JaCoby Stevens, so thats one more 5 than Herman has ever pulled.

He was an asset to Ohio state and has done well at Houston. I don't think it's a strength but it's definitely not a weakness.

If he has established any connections in Texas, that has to be a plus.

You would have to be one of the most incompetent bastards on this rotating turd called earth if you couldn't recruit well at LSU. Your state home grows top five talent and you have Tulane to compete with for that talent. You can also cherry pick Texas, Mississippi, and Florida. Yes Tom Herman and his staff would recruit very well at LSU.

Holy frick. I didn't realize Aranda was recruiting like that. I'm feeling better about him if he were to take over the program now.

I do think you're being a little hard on Herman, though. He still had to keep that 5 star recruit last year. That's not always easy when you have a HC change. Just like the Baylor recruit you mentioned. He has that Houston program in great shape.

Tom Herman got Jt Barrett out of Texas and had him prepared when Braxton Miller went down. He recruited/developed a Heisman candidate and big 10 player of the year at our greatest position of need. We need a dynamic qb. You won't beat Bama with a game manager anymore you have to be explosive and take risks.

Probably his weakest aspect.

How can you possibly come to that conclusion? Do you mean in Louisiana? Never having recruited in LA and being a weak recruiter are not the same thing. I'm fairly certain Saban didn't have a lot of LA contacts when he started in 1999.

He's recruiting lights out in TX right now and that will only help him at LSU. His main focus is Houston area talent and making sure he keeps local guys local. Sound familiar?

He's in the running for guys that a Houston has no business competing for. He's getting kids to look at them. Is he gonna out recruit powerhouses at Houston? No.

Kinda like Saban was in on everyone at Mich St but didn't have the brand name behind him to pull a lot of those guys til he got here and now at Bama.

You can disagree, that's fine. I hope you'll still support him with as much vigor as you support O if Herman ends up here. My guess would be that you will bc the guy is gonna be incredible. What he's done an OC and what he's doing at UH has earned him the attention he's gotten. Period

i didnt say he was bad, im saying hes ok but theres no evidence at all to suggest he's ever been "elite".

orgeron is not and has never been my choice for HC. its a fluid situation, as it should be IMO. herman was my number 1 by a wide margin at the beginning, even after the navy loss, and i was crystal clear about that on this board.

but 1 bad game vs a team you should beat is an anomaly. 4 in a row is a massive red flag.
