How bad would Bama be screwed if Saban waited to retire at season's end?

After Miami, USC, VT, USCe, etc and possibly UGA or Texas?

Not too worry either coordinator is serviceable.

The fairy tale is over for Bama if he leaves regardless.

Yeah. He's unhappy. Going to go Scrooge McDuck with all of his Mercedes money and co-host the Finebaum Show.

Serviceable is the new benchmark for Bama? That was a slap! Granted after said openings your coordinators weren't good enough for any other opening but Bama must have lower standards then.

I agree Bama was never successful prior to Saban and are probably tired of success at this point.

Maybe we could get an overpaid, overrated high school coach like a few other schools in the SEC.

Maybe you shouldn't make fun of a high school coach who just owned you?

But is this the year Texas throws more his way after Strong bolts or is sent packing?

Saban isn't going to retire now. Probably 3-5 years away minimum. Dude is 64 and could easily coach until he's 70.

Saban's not retiring. He will die on the sideline and his spirit will coach the remainder of that season.

With the volcanic hissy fits that he's thrown during games in the past, I'm honestly surprised that it hasn't happened already.

I guess the question becomes: who is going to be the player to send him into that fateful meltdown, and will that player make it out of Brian Dennehy stadium alive?

This may be one of the most sour grapes threads I've ever seen.

I'm pretty sure when he does retire it will be at the end of a season and, while publicly it may be a shock, privately the PTB at Bama will not be shocked. It won't be this year, though.

To answer the question, not very "screwed". It will be difficult to replace one of the top 3 coaches of all time and other than Meyer, there isn't a coach who you could hire that would be his equal, so there would likely be a bit of a dip (dip meaning, compete for top 10 every year, but maybe not compete for championship every year).

With the possible exception of the Texas job, Bama is a more desirably landing spot than all of these. I could easily make a case it is more desirable than Texas.

1) in the SEC
2) roster currently stacked meaning much more likely for immediate success
3) no rebuild necessary
4) the administration and boosters don't try to run the show at Bama (anymore) the way they do at Texas
