FWIW I still think UTw will land Herman over LSU... I'm not trying to convince myself of the contrary

HOWEVER

If Herman really wants to make the most successful jump from Houston, he has to go to Baton Rouge.

1) Defense
Texas Scoring Defense: 116th in the Nation
LSU Scoring Defense: 11th in Nation

Herman is one of the greatest offensive minds in CFB right now. If Charlie Strong can't put a formidable defense on the field what makes one think he can come in and fix the disaster that is UT's defense?

Meanwhile, LSU is continuing to improve a unit that is already one of the best defenses in the nation under the guidance of his college roommate Dave Aranda

Cant argue with most and I agree initially he would be better but in the long run Texas is a better job with better resources. Herman would do better earlier in his tenure though. Texas is a mess today as we speak.

2) Recruiting/Talent LSU simply has a better recruiting situation than Texas

Holding down Louisiana and the Southeast Texas areas, as well as, Florida is a much better situation than continually fighting TCU, A&M, Baylor, OU, and LSU for recruits in-state.

The talent LSU has at its disposal is enough to create a CFB dynasty

Which is why I am thinking more and more that if Tom Herman goes to Texas, he will have success. Just not at the same level if he were to go to LSU where he would win multiple titles

While Louisiana certainly has talent, this is an over played and almost untrue statement. Louisiana produces some great skill players but fall way short in producing interior linemen. LSU has always "had the state to themselves" and its produced only ok results throughout history. What is different today that wasnt there 20 years ago? 35 years ago? Also, you can only sign 25 guys some some are gonna be lost to other schools. As far as LSU becoming a dynasty in 120 years of football it would have happened somewhere along the way and hasn't. Blame it on what you want but Les Miles, Curly, Cholly, whomever were not the first coaches there and throughout history LSU has never sustained a dominant run much less multiple dominant runs. LSU can be a formidable team but dynasty is not a word that applies to LSU football. Baseball, absolutely.

At the end of the day, while LSU is a good program and can have bouts of great success it is not yearly sustainable. yes, Lots of kids grow up wanting to be Tigers. Millions more grow up wanting to be Longhorns so that is negated. What is going on right now at texas is a residual effect of the coach in waiting bs texas should have never done. Recruiting is going to get back and so will Texas but it will be like 3 or 4 years to see the results.
I wholeheartedly agree he would have faster success at LSU but would have more wins in 5 years at texas.

I think this is true, but I still think he would pick Texas over LSU given the choice. We'll just have to see.

Can Herman do things like field competent special teams (not get 3 extra points blocked in one game etc.), understand how to use time outs effectively, understand when to accept/decline penalties? If he can do those things then he's already better than Strong.

I've already made this point.

LSU has already proven recently they can withstand a coaching change while being an established program.. Even by hiring an average coach like Miles who came in and maintained..

USC and Texas are both still reeling.. USC has tried coach after coach, and Texas is a much larger rebuild.. they even signed a good class and got the Baylor guys and still have one horrific D..

I honestly believe LSU is the #1 job because Miles showed what an average coach can do while being established.. and they are still getting top 5 classes.. imagine what an above average coach could do.. The sky is the limit.

The SEC is also not what it once was. Lots of great players, but overall teams aren't as strong right now..

None of that matters, man. Texas always gets their man. More money. Better city. LSU has no chance. Yada yada yada etc

Why does everyone assume this? Wouldn't a coach rather coach one of the big six teams in the SEC the premier conference in America than coach in the Big 12?

Even if that is a factor for him, I don't think it will be enough if Texas wants him.

The real difference between Brown and Miles was Texas waited too long to fire Brown. LSU fortunately didn't make that mistake with Les.

Brown left a dumpster fire for the near future. Les left LSU stacked for the next coach to have immediate success.

Totally agree... at least Ole Les can still recruit.. thats what the main difference was.. Texas started recruiting the pre-madonnas of the state and they got punched in the mouth when the got on the field with the big boys.. Many Diaz told me that himself when I had his sons in camp...
