he plans to leave, or he handled it in a terribly disappointing way. There are better answers that he could have given.
Lying does not make for a good role model or a great coach on the recruit's couch.
This is amateur athletics, not the pros, and plenty of good coaches win without lying.
All he had to do was dismiss the topic if he plans to leave.

He was caught off guard with the questions. He was awkward with it because he isnt used to lying. Give the man a break. He literally has a million dollar decision to make soon. There are greater tragedies in the world.

Coaches have nothing correct to say in this situation. Deflect and everyone assumes you're gone. Lie and you are a liar. There is no good way to handle this. Information travels too fast these days.
