If he cannot beat Saban, LSU must get someone who can.

Such an animal does not exist. No one beat Bear Bryant on a regular basis. Think about how many good coaches there were around the SEC at the time. The fact is, he was the kind of coach that only comes around so often. Saban is the same. Until he retires or loses his edge (which Bryant did. I don't think Saban will. He's the type to go out on top), the man you are looking for just doesn't exist.

My god, what kind of meltdown would there be on these boards if Iowa beat LSU on that last-play hail mary if Les was coach ...

I seem to remember Arkansas' Matt Jones dropping one of those on us in 02, as well. There was a lot more riding on that game. That pass knocked us out of the SEC Title game.

How many quality hires have you EVER actually seen LSU make in football? What in the world is the basis of your confidence - just look back through the list of hires from Cholly Mac forward.

Since Curly, they haven't made a "bad" hire.

Les never lost to UAB or any non conference opponent in a regular season game.

Well, now that you mention it, that sure does trump Saban's championships.

Who do you think you'd replace him with?

I bet Paul Johnson could duplicate the success Miles has had. With elite talent, that offense could wreck people. People say it's something teams with less talent run to "equalize" the playing field.. I say run those offenses with talent and own CFB.

You don't think Paul Johnson could regularly beat up on A&M, Miss St, Ole Miss, and a lifeless Florida on a regular basis? Win one or two of Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn.. and you're looking at 10-2 or 11-1

A&M
Miss St
Ole Miss
Florida
SECe rotating
Arkansas
Alabama
Auburn
OOC opponent
Cupcake 1
Cupcake 2
Cupcake 3

8-4 to 12-0.. seems pretty comparable to me. We'd certainly have a more potent offense and a rested defense most of the time.

Paul Johnson would not be bringing in the elite talent you're talking about. LSU does not recruit itself and elite high school athletes aren't lining up to run the triple option.

As long as LSU has guy like Frank Wilson we will never have a problem recruiting. This is a down year in recruiting and we are still going to finish between 5-10, because of in-state talent

The BEAR commented that he did not understand why LSU fired Cholly Mac. He said that no coach ever beat him, except Cholly Mac. Actually, LSU beat Bama in his first year and Dietzel was HC. Cholly Mac was DC.

Thank God we didnt listen to the Bear. We won 1 SEC title in 17 years with Cholly. We then won 2 titles in 8 years after getting rid of his arse

So a 3-loss season in a true rebuilding year is worse than Les's 3 straight years with 3+ losses?
