Let's hope Les stays. The crop of available coaches this year is thin. Plus he's the best coach in LSU FB history. Case closed.

Yeah - would definitely be entertaining. You might return in a confused mental state speaking in Milesisms.

How is your source better than ESPN's?
Seriously what trusted inside information do you have?
I'm guessing NONE. But I welcome your proving me wrong.

The link is talking about the Michigan athletic department, not LSU's.

Stop being so defensive. Les isn't going anywhere.

He accrued the most wins of any coach at LSU but he isn't the best coach that has been through the program.

Obviously.

That other guy is on tv today at 3. Tune in.

That would be the late Charles McClendon.

Well, here ya go. Listen to Miles' own agent!! Seems like he would know.

LINK
quote:

Bill Martin, Michigan's athletic director, had received permission Wednesday to talk to Miles after Saturday's Southeastern Conference title game, but he had not called to set up a meeting or schedule a phone call.

quote:

Miles had no idea if Michigan really wanted him. So Bass decided to ask. He said he called Martin's cell phone on Friday and left a message. He just wanted to know where Miles stood. Then, when he didn't hear back, the agent said he called Martin again. "The (LSU) deal was so good that we couldn't just wait," Bass said via phone Tuesday. "I didn't know if we were one of the candidates in the pool at that time. There was just no communication."

no communication = no offer

If you want to go off of Saban's performance at Bama, sure. However, he had plenty of games where he got out coached and was overly conservative in his tenure here. His 3 loss SEC title in 01 was backed into the same way Miles' 07 BCS title was. He had one dominant team, a great finish in 01, a solid building year in 2000, but a horrible season in 02 and a pretty mediocre one in 04, as well.

I guess many of you have also forgotten how Saban and Fisher handled the QB situation in 04, when Marcus Randal, who was only slightly better than Jennings, started over a more talented but not quite ready JR. And how about the never-ending revolving door of assistants, many of whom made lateral moves just to get away from Saban because of how he treated them.

Looking at Saban now, you don't see ANY of these things. His offense has gotten more wide open. His assistants are very loyal. He doesn't seem to be as much of a jackass. Despite early criticism, it looks like he handled his touchy QB situation this year pretty well. He keeps on winning big, no matter what.

Don't get me wrong. As a pure, pound for pound coaching talent, Saban is the best who has ever come through the doors at LSU. But in terms of success while here, his actual performance isn't any better than what Miles has pulled off. It isn't about what could have been if he had stayed. It's about what Saban actually did here. His performance at Bama has no bearing on that, which muddies the water. It's so different, and so much better in many ways that's it's easy to forget or gloss over the flaws in the past.

Les never had a untalented team that was used to losing either.

Les got the keys to a race car but can't figure out how to get it out of 3rd.

Well stated. Saban has matured as a coach since leaving LSU ... something that may have never happened had he never left and got humbled by the NFL. Retards on this board have a very short memory of how things really transpired while Saban was at LSU.

My god, what kind of meltdown would there be on these boards if Iowa beat LSU on that last-play hail mary if Les was coach ...
