Do people really believe that beating Wyoming and Utah in the regular season is all that different and going to change public perception of TCU in regards to the voters because they now get to play South Florida and Connecticut?

Exactly, this is a pressure cooker environment that may not be as appealing as a AQ through the Big East. Some people are just more risk averse but it's certainly worth trying to gain his services. Who knows what motivates some of these coaches?

facts are facts and skip went cheap to get les. as far as les being the best candidate at the time that is a totally different argument.

But u didn't argue ALL the objective points, only ones that ignored lsu's advantages; which a lot of objective observers would likely say outweigh all that tcu has. It was said time and again that he's not leaving. Peterson is looking at stanford as we speak

quote:it held up enough against the power football team in the country. and we pretty much have been running that too with coleman last year and francois this year. just bulked up safety/linebacker tweeners
But he runs that crazy 5-2-4

and nine of that comes close to what LSU has. Coaches aren't scared of high expectations
Never said he was scared.
I don't know Patterson personally. It all depends on his motivations.
Money? He's got an easy gig now.
Cementing his name to a university a la Joe Pa and forming a annual powerhouse? Again he could do that at TCU.
Wants a challenge and to pit his coaching against the best in college football? LSU and SEC all the way.

his family really likes DFW
His wife is from DFW and Patterson lives about a block away from the stadium right on TCU campus. I used to run by his house when I lived down there.

Ok how many coaches prefer low expectations and aren't confident in their ability to win at a high level?

You're really not seeing the forest from the trees.

You are leaving out facts about other coaches within that exact same conference who bolted to bigger programs, even though their B.E. jobs held all of these same qualities. Some of them in better situations than GP is in now.

I don't know. I'm not just going make up a number out of my arse. How many are?

just to correct its a 4-2-5 scheme and it would work perfectly for LSU. What's LSU's biggest weakness year in and year out on defense...linebacker. With his defense you put an extra safety in and it works great at improving team speed and defending the pass. As shown against Wisconsin, its also effective against the run.

My guess it's a small minority which is my point

Common sense would tell most objective observers that coaches are about as competitive as they come and have a very high regard for themselves and ability. TCU will always present Patterson with doubters. He may want to challenge that stance and the only way to do that would be to leave.

I like Patterson.
But I don't think he'd be a homerun like many people seem to believe.
He's thrived at a smaller school... his personality doesn't seem to be one for recruiting. I think he fits well where he is and that's why he can thrive.
It wouldn't be my favorite hire, but I'd be okay with it.

Liking an area and having family roots in place are different things.

tcu is on the other side of the sec and they are going to be a part of the big east
