I like Decoster too but what would be his role? There are 2 open offensive positions. Unless Callaway is going to OC, it would be difficult to get him an on field position.

Unless he is going to take Cregg’s place after NSD.

Bill Busch leaving could leave an extra spot

We don’t need a coach dedicated just to safeties

They aren’t giving up a defensive coach. It would likely have to mean no PGC.

If that happened we would have 6 offensive coaches and 3defensive. Too lopsided. He either comes as te coach with no pgc and Calloway will have to be oc to keep him. Could come in as online coach to be if cregg is leaving. Though he hasn’t coached it so that is a risk. Even if he played. Remember we had to get rid of meatball bc he was a good recruiter but not a great coach. Or he comes in as an analyst for a year with a wink that he will be a future on field coach. Basically same as Calloway did. A te coach at old dominion probably doesn’t make much.

If it’s Harrell than we don’t need a PGC

He recruited Arik Gilbert and is still close to him. There is hope maybe his return will help pacify the Gilbert family. He may interview this week.

Pacify is not really a word I’d want to hear with grown men.

If you have to pacify a family, they will choose to be pacified whenever they want. They will pick up the malcontent when they don’t get enough attention.

Don't know where you get that from.

Raymond - has coached entire secondary plenty of times before

O is a DL coach.

We have no LB coach and LBs were awful this year on top of Pelini never being a good LB coach to begin with so that was a bad decision from jump start.

Depends on who they get as DC. Freeman can coach LBs assuming he's comfortable with that as DC. The pieces have to fall in place with coordinators before they can find a spot for DeCoster. All depends on the hires, imo. I could see them going Raymond, Bo Davis, and Freeman if they wanted too. They have GAs to assist and O can help on that side too. I'm sure Raymond doesn't mind more responsibility for himself since it only makes him look better when the entire secondary is good.

On opposite side, you're going to really need a QB coach unless the OC fills that hole or Ensminger somehow does in whatever capacity he's retained. I'd be shocked if Cregg stays on staff past signing day. They might be keeping him around in hopes of getting Leigh but knowing him he's probably hurting that relationship. They're not demoting Call or letting him walk. All indications are the staff likes him. It would take someone to come in and steal him from LSU.

This sounds like what LSU has been lacking in the coaching dept. A young hungry guy that can relate to players, great recruiter and can coach. I wouldn't mind this hire.

Maybe the plan is to wait till signing day, cut Cregg loose and re-hire Decoster as the OL/TE coach.

Or would this make too much sense?

He's been an OL coach at the D2 level and as a GA at Nevada. Not sure he's ready for that.
