I have few sources and rarely post any “scoops”

However, I did hear that they are trying to get him back. There may or may not be a position for him, depending on how the other hires play out.

He recruited Arik Gilbert and is still close to him. There is hope maybe his return will help pacify the Gilbert family. He may interview this week.

He is currently the TE coach at Old Dominion and was an OT at ULL.

He’s from Florida,

Below is a quote from Bruce Feldman from last year:

quote:

“He is a rising star coach,” Feldman said. “Decoster landed the nation’s tight end recruit Arik Gilbert this year and helped develop Thaddeus Moss in his breakout season. Plus he’s well-versed in this record-breaking LSU offense.”

He was only a GA last year, but was treated as a full-time coach.

His GA stint was up.

DeCoster returning would be great news. Not only can he recruit his arse off, but I think he was a huge factor in the development of Thad Moss when he was here.

He knows what he is doing and is a damn good TE coach.

2 questions:

1. Why is a GA put in charge of recruiting the best player in the nation ??

2. If that is true, how can you let him go to Old Dominion????

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. - Before he was signed to help the Redskins, rookie tight end Thaddeus Moss helped the Old Dominion University football team. Moss, the former standout tight end for the national champion LSU Tigers and the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss, joined the ODU tight ends on a Zoom call last month. The visit was organized by first-year ODU tight ends coach John Decoster. Decoster, prior to joining new head coach Ricky Rahne at ODU, spent three seasons as a graduate assistant tight ends coach at LSU. "They're getting a hell of a coach," Moss told News 3 Sports Director Adam Winkler via a Zoom press conference the Redskins hosted Wednesday. "I can't say enough good things about him." The Tigers, en route to the 2019 national championship, led the nation in total offense, scoring offense and red zone offense in 2019 and finished second in passing offense. Decoster coached Moss, the most-productive tight end in LSU history. Moss, signed by the Redskins after going unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft, was a key part of LSU’s record-setting offense as a pass-catching threat and effective blocker in running situations. He holds the LSU single-season record for receptions (45) and receiving yards by a tight end. "ODU is getting a young coach, a real active coach," Moss added. "He can relate to his players. He's a players coach. He's a hell of a recruiter. I love Coach Decoster. When I got to LSU, he was the first guy I talked to."

I’m sure he had help on Gilbert, but he was the TE coach.

GA’s recruit all the time.

Lacouture had a big part in reeling Maason Smith in this year. It’s not uncommon

Could this mean we’re trading the PGC position for a TE coach position?

Is there really anything to rectify with the Gilbert family? Doesn’t seem like an issue our staff can resolve for him

I don’t know the inside of that story. Perhaps he has a comfort level with DeCoster.
