Les Miles is 0-10 when playing as the underdog. He's won MOST of the games he was expected to win, lost a few he was expected to win, and hasn't beat anyone he wasn't supposed to beat.

His win % is obviously skewed because he's been able to coach more games in 11 years at LSU than any coach ever.

Yes-I seem to remember a coach over at Alabama who lost sme games he was supposed to win....Homecoming vs ULM, Utah in the sugarbowl, Oklahoma in the sugarbowl...Texas A&M at home-Ole Miss past 2 years and he was favored over Ohio State last year. Also-he was here for 11 years because coaches who win 78% of their games and 2 NC appearances winning one of them...2 SEC titles, develop more players to the NFL even though he loses them early costing him more success, and always have top recruiting classes-well, that what usually happens with them-they stay around for a while-except at LSU of course!!!

I happen to be a die-hard Tiger Fan who is also a State alum. Bring in "Jimbaw" or whoever-they will have some big shoes to fill. Even Alabama as passionate as they are never fired a coach who went at least 7-4 in his final season!!

I'm guessing you don't pay much attention to the SEC.

The underlying reason why this is happening this year is because the administration believes they are equipped to win the SEC next year and they don't believe Les can do it. He's struggled in the last 3 seasons in the SEC, especially in the West. Below .500 in the SEC west in the past 3 seasons. This was in the works before the 3 losses.

I'm not trying to equate Les Miles to Bear Bryant but the man shouldn't be fired for entering a slump.
it doesn't feel like a slump, though. Les miles teams are largely the same as they've always been. Difference is, in the first half of les' tenure, there was a mystique to LSU. We had the magic, we made the plays, we won the close games. That aura is dead. What's left to see is the disorganization, unimaginative offense, penalties, and our annual prime time humiliation against Alabama.

It just doesn't matter anymore how many starters LSU returns if miles is the coach. It will be the same team he always runs out there: talented enough to win 8 games before a game is played, a couple tough games and a couple hard games, can they split those and go 10-2? Good bowl matchup.

Every year, Les miles teams start the season incapable of winning a title bc of his disdain/neglect/incompetence of the QB position. But hey, why use a QB when you can win 10 games a year playing 1970s big ten 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust football?

i feel like the fans of other schools are trying to guilt LSU for bailing on miles bc they don't fear LSU+miles anymore. They'd love for us to ride the decline out as goofy les handcuffs the program. LSU with the right coach is a game changer and Les simply doesn't scare anyone, anymore

The idea of blue blood coach reinvigorating LSU is something rival SEC teams fear. So guilt them into staying with whacky uncle les!

So after the buyout-and the money to get the "savior" whoever it is-LSU should expect-and not accept anything less than an SEC title. That is the reasoning.

I'm not going to argue your oped, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it.

But that "fact" you try to throw in is simply not true.

LSU was the "underdog" against Alabama in both 2010 and 2011, in the irrelevant Game of the Century, not to mention 2005.

I'm also pretty sure we were underdogs against Ole Miss 2014, South Carolina 2012, Florida 2010, Georgia 2009, Auburn 2008, Tennessee and Arkansas in 2006, and maybe even the bowl games in 2005 and 2008.

And were we favored to beat MSU this year?? Arkansas 2009 was maybe a push??

But hey, by all means continue to revise history to attempt to make your silly little opinion piece seem more "informed"

you should probably get a little more "informed" on how math works and stuff

Looking forward to watching LSU collapse into Vanderbilt like depths after you fire the coach who only wins 10 games a year on average.
You might want to worry about your own program going back to its pre-1976 roots and trying to keep up with Wake Forest.

As an LSU fan, I thought it was wrong for Bama to fire Shula. He did coach them while they were under sanctions.

That's exactly right. After his 11th season, he should be expected to compete in the SEC

Agreed. This is what you call spouting off at the mouth. Facts don't have to line up with the truth and history is whatever "they" say it is.

The line stands at either Alabama -5 or -4.5. But it's -5 most places.

Fair enough. If LSU was favored over Ole Miss last year, it wasn't by much. Just another of the top of my head.

Miles did it in 2-you're going to give the new coach 11 years?
