I'm still leaning towards hiring Aranda as HC, so this isn't me pushing my choice, but icydk, all 22 starters from the FSU 2014 NC team, along with kicker Roberto Aguayo (who was drafted in the 2nd round) played in the NFL. and that was Fishers 4th year, it was his team entirely.

OFFENSE

Jameis Winston, QB, Buccaneers

Devonta Freeman, RB, Falcons

Karlos Williams, RB, Bills

Rashad Greene, WR, Jaguars

Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Panthers

Nick O'Leary, TE, Bills

Cam Erving, OL, Browns

Tre' Jackson, OL, Patriots

Bryan Stork, OL, Patriots

Bobby Hart, OL, Giants

Josue Matias, OL, Titans

there's two Pro Bowl players there (Winston and Freeman), and three 1st round picks (Winston, Benjamin and Erving).

DEFENSE

Jalen Ramsey, DB, Jaguars

Ronald Darby, DB, Bills

Terrance Brooks, DB, Ravens

P.J. Williams, DB, Saints

Lamarcus Joyner, DB, Rams

Telvin Smith, LB, Jaguars

Terrance Smith, LB, Chiefs

Christian Jones, LB, Bears

Mario Edwards Jr., DL, Raiders

Eddie Goldman, DL, Bears

Timmy Jernigan, DL, Ravens

Jalen Ramsey went in the 1st round and five more went in the 2nd. Telvin Smith was named as one of the NFLs top 100 players.

I think this is a good point to make, and of the plausible options, Fisher is both a "safe" hire as well as a "home run" hire.

That being said, his detractors are going to appear in this thread and say that he should have won more with these NFL players (in 2013 and 2015 I suppose)

It's a silly argument anyway.

"He only won that title bc of the QB he recruited."

It's like okay, and?

They went 25-3 in the years right before and after the title year

39-3 in that 3 year span.

Yeah, should have won more

I'm sorry, but you just don't lose to another team 63-20. I understand Louisville is good, but Christ. And a few seasons ago the 59-20 loss to Oregon, and that was with Jameis Winston. You just don't lose games that.

Sorry, but Jimbo and his style won't beat Alabama. He's not the answer and certainly not someone you break the bank on.

He also won because he had the benefit of playing in a very downtrodden ACC. In his championship season, they beat Duke in the ACCCG. Duke.

I'm not saying that Jimbo isn't a good choice. But his winning percentage is inflated because of the competition he's played. Now that the ACC isn't just filled with also rans, his teams aren't rolling any longer. It's definitely a legitimate concern.

Who do you think is the answer? Or at least, who do you think gives us the best chance?

Like Georgia 2004, right? i can't remember who the coach was then but I'm sure glad that idiot is gone! You just don't lose games like that. I think he was in his 5th year too!

That Duke team was better than any SEC East team this year!

What about giving credit for whom they played and beat in the playoffs? No. You won't do that, because you're probably an idiot that wants Herman at all costs.

No question the 2013 team was filthy loaded. He hasn't exactly coached his teams up since then.

You're seriously telling me all 22 starters got to the NFL? If so, thats ridiculous.

I dont even think 2011 LSU or Bama can claim that.

I don't see why it's a knock even if a coach only won bc of a qb. Like saying Brady is a system qb. Diddly Doo. They play for championships, not for reasons why they win.

First, there was no playoff that year. Who's the idiot now?

But on to your point, sure give him credit for beating an Auburn team that we destroyed that year. That's the same Auburn team that needed prayer final second wins against Georgia and Alabama just to get to the BCSCG. It would have been more shocking had he lost to Auburn.

Jimbo's teams have underperformed the last couple seasons. There's no denying that. There is no slam dunk hire, and am not completely sold on Herman either.

I've never thought that. I think Jimbo's a great coach, he's just not my first choice. If he's our next coach I'll be happy, as long as we take a swing at Herman.

If by "slam dunk" you mean Saban or Myer, I agree. But we can't hire those guys. We can either roll the dice, or we can take the best option on the table. We don't know if Jimbo can win a championship here, but I think we can at least expect fairly high results. It doesn't mean we'll settle for no championships, but I like the idea of giving him a shot over some of the dice rolling options.
