It's taken him a few cycles, but the Saints D is nasty. Good defensive coach.

He’s a great coach but…..in college recruiting is the largest part of the equation. Not sure if he is or isn’t a great recruiter.

A very quality NFL assistant will be a tough grab. Right now he watches film and makes a game plan for the week with the best players you can get in the game of football. Why come back to college and have to work harder to teach and implement your game?

Plus recruiting and the constant travel and communication that takes. Plus dealing with the associated academics. Plus a larger roster. A college coaching job at a place as demanding as LSU isn't a cake walk.

He is probably going to get some interviews for NFL HC. Payton thought he had the Bears job which is why he blocked Nielsen from taking the LSU DC job.
