Well, this puts miles at the top of the list, due to his record that speaks for itself in developing young qbs. We should form a committee ourselves to begin a search for someone with as much coaching ability as mies

I don't see this as Cutcliffe turning them down. They asked if he was interested. He said no. It's not like they offered. That wouldn't be a good fit anyway.

Cutcliffe has health issues.

Duke is a low-stress gig. It's a hoops school. He can win 8 games a year there, and it's considered lagniappe. They're happy with it. It's the perfect spot for him.

All that is spot-on, and most people knew this. I still can't believe he was even offered.

If there was a chance for them to get Miles, There's slim to none now. He has too much ego and too good of a situation at LSU to be anybody's back up plan IMO. His alma mater or not.

I actually agree with this. If what's being posted is true, I think Les stays because his pride wouldn't allow him to take the job.

I firmly believe he wasn't offered. Was he reached out to? Yes most likely. But to believe he was made a concrete offer to be our HC is asinine.

But whatever, national media will run with it. Apparently Mike and Mike this morning were saying on their show it's a sign of how far our program has fallen. Luckily anyone who values their opinion is an idiot themselves.

I find it very surprising that Brandt is tweeting/leaking information to the public. Considering he has consulted on coaching hires in the past, leaking information might discredit him in the future. I also find it strange that an 81 year old man is tweeting.

no doubt he is doing a favor for someone

contacting Cutcliffe directly, offering him the job and no one from Duke approving it is extremely unethical. The one thing we know about Michigan is they live and breath ethics (at least publicly).

Times have indeed changed. There are more Tier 1 coaching jobs now than 20 years ago...and they pay big bucks. And even the tier 2 jobs pay very well. schools like Michigan abs Notre dame have lost luster to schools in the south.

Agreed. I have a hard time believing that's true, but if it is, it means they whiffed on both Harbaugh and Miles.

What is Brandt's motivation? Who does this seemingly bad rumor help? Cutcliffe probably isn't going anywhere and duke may not feel the need to compensate him because of this bad rumor.

Nothing but agent talk. They stir the pot. Of course, Michigan's Head Hunter would ask the agent if there was interest. Same with Miles. They would not need to contact LSU.No doubt....some of the VIP fans will call Miles, but that is not Michigan. Pat answer...I have not talked to Michigan. Right???

According to Brandt's bio he is a Wisconsin grad....maybe he just hates Michigan.

I'm sure Bear Bryant would have never leaked information publicly that would have made Auburn look bad.

he is an 80+ year old NFL commentator, who the hell knows why he is tweeting about it? There has to be some reason he said it with ZERO corroboration. Now you have Duke issuing an outright denial that contact was officially made (which would be pretty much required for a real job offer)

UM contacted Miles' agent, did not offer Cutcliffe
Angelique S. Chengelis, The Detroit News 10:24 a.m. EST December 10, 2014

Michigan, which is in the midst of searching for a new football coach, has reached out to LSU coach Les Miles through his agent, a source close to the situation told The Detroit News on Tuesday.

Another source with knowledge of the Michigan search said there was no truth to a report late Tuesday that Duke coach David Cutcliffe had turned down the job. Gil Brandt, a longtime NFL personnel executive and now an NFL.com analyst, wrote on Twitter that Cutcliffe had been made an offer.

Michigan interim athletic director Jim Hackett is leading the search to replace Brady Hoke, fired eight days ago after four seasons. Hackett is using a search firm to assist in the search, as was reported last week in The Detroit News. Those firms often are used to reach out to potential candidates to see if they would be interested. The search firm presumably has contacted a number of coaches, but those contacts do not necessarily mean those coaches are targets.

Former Michigan quarterback and current San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh is considered the favored candidate by Hackett.

But Miles has deep ties to Michigan, as well. He played for Bo Schembechler and also served as an assistant coach for the Wolverines. Miles' agent, George Bass, has not returned a request for comment.

According to The Advocate newspaper in Baton Rouge, La., LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said he has not been contacted by anyone regarding Miles.

I honestly think a large portion of the rumors are just people making shite up because they're hearing absolutely nothing from Michigan.

Michigan's man is Jim Harbaugh and we won't hear anything until December 29th about a hire.

This is all starting to make sense now.......Cutcliffe was contacted but it was to see if he had any interest in coming to LSU if Miles went to Michigan.

Cutcliffe is one of the coaches I think LSU should "consider" IF Miles go to Michigan. He has a proven track record with qb development plus extensive knowledge of the SEC. He would not be a flashy hire, but a very good hire.

Im so glad rumor and innuendo is accepted on the coaches board.

Im not saying LSU should hire Cutcliffe but they could do much worse than him IMO.

Only 2 coaches have won at Duke. Cut and Spurrier. Cut worked with Chavis at Ten so a possible chance to retain Chavis. Cut is known for qb development something that LSU is greatly lacking. Again, I'm not saying he should be the first choice but on the list.
