He's also speaking to Chad Morris, OC at Clemson.

Why did he not take him to Florida?

He tried to take him to Utah as a position coach, but Stud was offered the OC position at Bowling Green when Meyer left so he stayed at BG.

Herbie's got the best job in college football and he's gonna leave it to go be a QB coach?

he has already said he wants to...

No, what he said was that IF he did not have his current ESPN job that he would like to coach. He definitely made a point of clarifying that on Finebaum last week... his statements were based on the premise that, if he did not have his current job, what would he like to do.

Herbstreit said plainly on Cowherd Monday that while he has talked about the possibility of coaching with Meyer and others and that he will eventually because it's in his blood, that he isn't leaving ESPN at this time.Said it's just not time. Of course he could be bsing and take the job but that is what he said. He knows football but just from listening to him on ESPN,he doesn't seem like he'd be a good coach to me. Just my opinion and I could be completely wrong especially if his tv personality is all show.

Heard this too. Cat was pretty much out of the bag on Colin that morning that Urban was gone. He kept cutting his mic asking if it was public knowledge that he was leaving ESPN. When Herby was on the show, this interview made me feel that while he would love to do it he would be risking a job that he absolutely love. Got the impression he feels this job is too good and secure to go and risk it as the QB coach.

anyone would be a FOOL for leaving that job for an asst coach job

Exactly. The guy in his early 40s IS college football. He is the lead analyst of gameday and is the color man of the A team for ABC primetime Saturday night. If anyone is talking college football on a different show the first thing they do is get kirk herbstreit on there. What does he have to do during the week? Just watch some game film for analysis reasons and to prepare for his saturday game. Hes not up at the football ops building till 10 at night. Hes not taking recruiting trips in January. Hes gotta be making upper 6 figures. His job is better than any coaching job ESPECIALLY assistant coaching jobs in the nation.

He said otherwise on the Herd

quote:

"If I left (the show) I would want to go coach," Herbstreit says, "I'd want to be a high school coach at a program where it really mattered or I've talked with Urban (Meyer) about if he gets back into coaching being a quarterbacks coach and eventually an offensive coordinator for him."

quote:

Later Herbstreit's best friend, Deron Brown, is asked if he could see Herbstreit back coaching quarterbacks at their alma mater one day. "I'm not touching that," he says, "but I'll tell you this, I hope Urban Meyer takes the job at Ohio State."
