If Stoops can go 8-4 at Kentucky every year, I am sure he can do it at Aggie too.

It’s really not a bad hire. It’s just not a sexy hire and seems like settling.

Not bad in the sense that your floor will probably be 8-4, but your ceiling is likely 10-2

I really thought they'd try and go with a big hire, especially with Texas coming in next year. Stoops seems "meh".

I think it’s a good hire…until the contract comes out. They gotta be paying him 10mil per. That’s what makes it a meh hire

I don't understand the assumption everyone is making that Stoops's ceiling at A&M is 10-2. His ceiling at UK was 10-2, but if there's one positive thing you can say about A&M, it's that A&M is willing to invest top-tier resources into football. It's basically a given that UK is not, because Stoops wouldn't be leaving otherwise.

The real question is whether Stoops still has the motivation to grind out a title IMO. Moving at all suggests he does, otherwise why not just cash checks at UK until retirement?

Very baffling move. .529 record

And I’m sure he’s gonna be at least north of 8 mil a year.

I guess that’s just how Aggy rolls

Because the SEC East was a shite show his whole time there. Vandy, Mizzou, USCe all poo. they’ve benefitted from UF and/or UT being a shite show all this time. Think about it…is UK’s recent success vs UF because of Stoops or because UF can’t get their shite together?

Aggies will go 4-8 with an occasional great 7-5 season but they'll be on top of the world every July

It's obviously both. Joker Phillips era UK would have still lost to Florida no matter how big a dumpster fire UF is. Remember 2013? 4-8 Florida lost to Georgia Southern with their own linemen blocking each other on run plays, but they still beat Kentucky that year 24-7 in Lexington.

Sure, Kentucky's ceiling with a healthier East is probably closer to 8-4 or even 7-5 with their current investment level. Stoops would have gotten that out of them IMO.

My point is that any given coach has a ceiling that's partially dependent on him and partially dependent on the school he's at. When he is his own limiting factor, skepticism is warranted. IMO, Kentucky was obviously the limiting factor here, so I think it's hasty to assume that he'll plateau at 9-3 or so.

Stoops’ average record at UK is 6.6-5.8. In a terrible SEC East and with their cross division permanent opponent being Mississippi State. He is unbelievably overrated and would kill to be the quintessential 8-4 coach. He had all of TWO regular seasons at Kentucky better than 7-5. Out of 11. TWO.

Yes that is true. Mizzou is still ahead of LSU. Mizzou with lesser talent roster still was competitive in the LSU game and was slowly getting better each week. Then Florida came close beating FSU. LSU was blown out against FSU. The Alabama game wasn't really close.

Obviously you havent watched any LSU games this year other than the LSU win against Mizz.LSU was in every game you consider a blowout until the 4th Qtr. Had daniels not been sucker punched against bama a 2 score game with LSU offense could have been overcome . You seem bitter LSU beat you with not much more talent to be honest.

You need to pipe down and hope Aggy doesn’t come looking Drinkwitz’s way. Down couple of years because Jimbo is a fraud, but aTm is still a better gig than Mizzou.
