Coaching options - there really is a clear #1 IMO

Obviously lots of names going around and more to be thrown into the mix going forward. With the earlier names like Fisher, Herman, Petrino, Fedora, Shaw, Kiffin and Orgeron in my opinion there is a clear #1 and LSU should do whatever it takes to make him the next HC at LSU.
Fisher - good coach, offensive minded, recruits well and ties to LSU and if LSU does hire him it will be a good hire. But with the relationship Fisher has with Saban "which is better than good" having to play him every year in a heated rivalry along with his current job at FSU and playing in the ACC I just don't think it happens. I just think Sexton is a master at getting his clients paid and that is what he did with Jimbo last year, I could be wrong with that just my thoughts though.
Petrino - bottom line is he is a winner on the football field. He will build a winner wherever he goes and he has the temperament, drive and competitiveness to beat Saban on a regular basis here at LSU. His character flaws are so great though "just go look at his employment history and what people and players say about him" it just seems we would be selling our souls to win championships. Moving around in coaching is part of the deal, but his resume is ridiculous not even going into his morality issues!!
Fedora - offensive minded and has done well at NC and Southern Miss, recruits well and has experience in this part of the country. Wouldn't be a bad hire but imo is the fall back coach if your top options turn you down.
Shaw - great coach but runs the style of offensive scheme as LSU does, I don't think the LSU faithful really wants that right now. Recruits his scheme well but has no experience recruiting in this area. As good a coach as he is don't think it is the right fit.
Kiffin - everyone has to admit he has done a great job at Bama as OC, but that is all I would hire him for is OC. He needs to prove himself somewhere else first at HC because all you have to do is look at his HC gigs and that should tell you all you need to know - USC, Tenn and the Raiders. Too risky of a hire IMO.
Orgeron - sentimental pick, did really well as interim at USC, helped clear off SOME of the tarnish from his HC gig at Ole Piss. But I said "some" of the tarnish. He really screwed the pooch at Ole Piss so does a short 8 game stretch clear it up totally, I say no. He can recruit with the best of them and the best of them might just be him. Local ties people will love him, mostly in-state high school players which is a big bonus but LSU recruits well in Louisiana anyway. I hope he stays with LSU we need him but I think he is done at the end of the year when he doesn't get the HC gig.
Herman - the clear cut head and shoulders #1 choice above everyone else. The only concern is does he have NFL aspirations and would we lose him to the NFL because he will get that chance to go to the NFL if he comes to LSU. If you look at what he has done at Houston it is clear we should go ALL IN on the Tom Herman sweepstakes. He is recruiting well, at HOUSTON, and it would be a seamless switch to recruiting at LSU , Urban Meyer has stated that it was Herman's game plan that beat Bama. In his short tenure at Houston he has beat Jimbo Fisher/FSU, Bob Stoops/Oklahoma, Bobby Petrino/Louisville and if you throw the win as OC at Ohio St vs Bama that is a hell of a list he has out coached!!!! He is young, very energetic and a players coach. The only knock is a small snippet to judge him on as a head coach "but I think his wins and who he has beaten at HOUSTON help to discount the small snippet, and the fact that the NFL will come calling on him at some point that is about it.
I am hoping to hear in the first week in December that LSU's next HC is Tom Herman is he the RIGHT man for the job.

Solid post.
I pretty much agree with everything. But I will say, you mentioned Fedora as a fall back guy... Nope nope nope. I dont think we should 'fall back' period.
If we dont get the guy we want whether it be Herman, Jimbo either one....then DO NOT fall back. Stick with O until we can get THE GUY, even if it takes until next year.

He would also leave LSU for Ohio St and Texas most likely. Maybe USC as well.

really glad you didn't mention Briles... however,
How many times did his "good" Arkansas teams beat Saban/Alabama? Serious question.
which is exactly why he shouldn't be on our list. we can do better than Bobby Petrino.

Good post. I don't think LSU will hire Petrino.
I also think the only chance Orgeron has is to go 8-0 or 7-1 and beat Bama. I think that's a tall task though as we better just worry about Mizzou for now.

Chip Kelley is one of my top choices. Nick Saban would loose sleep when he has to play LSU.

Yep didn't include him because name isn't being bantered around now.

I don't really agree with you there, Miles beat him when he was at Oregon and Saban is a much better game planning coach than Miles "MUCH BETTER"

Full disclosure, I think Herman makes a lot of sense.
Having said that and while Herman may be the next urban Meyer, he could also be the the next rich rod when he gets his first huge gig, I don't agree with the notion that he's a GUARANTEED next coming.
Say the 49ers keep having a bad year.. No reason chip Kelly couldn't pull a petrino and bail on his pro team to go back to college too.
If Herman wants to stay in tx but ut wants to make a change charlie string wouldn't be a bad option imo.
Jimbo appears to be a great coach, although i don't recall LSU giving up 63 points in the fashion FSU did v Louisville(although the 2008 perrilloux yr was close).
I vote coach o in an upset or Herman in this election year.

Herman is only in his second season as a head coach. Seems like there's not enough data available on him to call him the clear cut choice.

Give Chip LSU's talent and he whips Oregon worse than Miles "did".

I think chip Kelly to LSU is hypothetical as harbaugh to mich was, as unlikely as it first appeared. The inept athletic Dept management at LSU however makes it a moot point.

What gives Saban more fits the spread and Kelley is the best at it. Yes like I said with the Athletes at LSU I think Saban would loose sleep

Chip Kelly said he had never seen a college team as big and long as that 2011. He said after the game, WOW, as they walked out, they all looked NFL ready.

It should be be obvious that we won't install a new offence in on week, but I would hope to see fewer wasted timeouts due to lack of clarity, or late delivery of the call from sideline derail a potentially successful play. That chance could determine the outcome of the game.

It's also likely that none of the above will be the next HC

Herman's NFL aspirations will never come to fruition as long as he is a spread coach. That is a non-issue.

Maybe but he hasn't done shite in the NFL, not saying he didn't in college he did but just don't like the guy for a reason I can't even put my finger on which means that isn't an educated thought at all.
