To get a Fleck type guy if O doesn't work out. It's the safe play that Joe took after not getting Fisher or Herman.

This type of hire wil set the program back 5-7 years. Look at Mike Archer. It took 8 years just to get back to a bowl game.

Don't expect a lot of support, these anti o guys can't seem to see any benefit

If he retains Aranda, we probably go 9-3 the next 2 years

What then?

And when he doesn't, the excuses will sound just like they have for the past 3 years.

To add that, the roster will still be stacked since O is a proven recruiter

our talent level isn't going to drop off enough for this thing to bomb out, so you people thinking this is a short term thing with an out, you're wrong. This is the new Les, he'll win enough to stay on for long enough

Paying jimbo as much as harbaugh is laughable. That is a hire that kills a program

There is no benefit. We hired an alsoran to head a multi-million dollar program

So the benefit is that our admin acknowledges he sucks but hired him anyway?

"Gives us options in 2 years"

This is already a concession from the O crowd that they know he sucks

If the admin was too inept to even hire someone this year what makes you think they'll do it 2 years from now?

How can you make the safe play when you just paid $12MM to fire the most successful coach our history?

We were all in at that point then Alleva folded his hand as soon as the big players stepped to the table

Worst case scenario, Frank Wilson should be ready in a couple of years!

Archer set the program back a bit but Joe Dean cheaping out and hiring Hallman did more damage.

Archer was competent but not willing to put in the hours to consistently succeed as head coach. Hallman was just goddamn incompetent.

Although I think it's a horrible hire, the one positive is that it won't set the program back 7 years. I seriously doubt O's ability to run a big time program, but don't doubt his recruiting. At least the table will be set for the next coach, like zook had Florida in position to succeed as soon as Meyer took over.

Question what if another top elite program say ND has an opening at the same time..

You expect this same administration to enter a bidding war?

They just showed this entire country they are willing to go cheap just for any coach that says they want to be here more.

No he will win just enough to get by on talent alone and we will continue to settle when we could be elite
