Did Helton offer him the defensive coordinator position?

Lol good luck w that usc

Why 'lol'? More money, better job security, probably a promotion, and arguably one of the top college football programs in one of the world's great cities. Yeah, who would be interested in that? Lol.

For 3 years he lived in a hotel room while his family was in Louisisana. Now that he's at LSU, it'll be tough to get him to USC.

Orgeron, 52, is accustomed to making adjustments. Since returning to USC as part of Kiffin's staff in January 2010, he has lived in a hotel room across the street from campus. His wife and three sons live in Louisiana, and he returns home when he can.

But sometimes personal pride (Haden) and family (Coach O's family is here) overcomes a lot of those things.

I only see him leaving for *the right HC position or DC/HC in waiting situation.

Louisiana people have this crazy idea that big programs want Orgeron to be a head coach or DC. Its just not happening after what happened to him at Ole Miss.

He'd have to take a HC or DC gig at a smaller school and prove he can do better. His stint at USC as interim doesn't prove a thing. Lots of interims win and then never see success afterwards.

I love O as our DL coach and recruiter, but he needs to earn a big time HC or DC position by doing one of those roles at a smaller school IMO.

ETA:

Not saying you said that, just pointing out something I've noticed a lot of here.

First off, he's never even been a DC before. Secondly, the only way he gets another HC job is going to be at a smaller school, especially the way it went at Ole Miss.

I love Coach O, but it was crazy Ole Miss hired him to be the HC after his top position prior to that was DL coach. They hired him for the sole purpose of recruiting hoping he could resurrect that program.

I'm a big fan of Coach O and how he got the best out of our guys when Kiffin was canned, but I don't think he'll come back to SC while Haden's the AD, even if he and Clay Helton are tight.

I think it's just Helton showing some respect and maybe giving his old buddy a bargaining chip for a raise.

No denying he's deserved some looks though, LSU's D-line looked way better this season than last, IMHO.
