What "tier" of options is Chizik in for schools hiring DC's? I guess he wouldn't go back to Auburn, but say for A&M or USC, or Bama if Smart leaves....he clearly isn't in the same league as Muschamp, or Venebles, or Narduzi, or Chavis......but is he a solid "B" hire, or is he seen as a has-been who has gone too long without being a DC and would be a terrible hire for a major program? As a DC at Auburn and Texas, he was top 3-5 in CFB from what I remember......

I had him pegged as more AC/DC actually.

You will lose any ability to tackle if you hire him.

Just a warning.

Even when he was a DC at Auburn did you have the same complaint? Were people glad he left for UT?

Nothing to lose, in this case.

No but Tubbs was running that defense.

Rhoades had the same complaint when he followed Chizik at ISU. He said he had never had to reteach how to tackle to a college team until he took that job.

It's possible that he quit trying to run the defense when he was HC but I wouldn't want my team to take that risk.

Chiz was a great DC. In fact, Muschamp owes much of his buzz to riding Chizik's coattails at Auburn and Texas. There was no problem tackling when he was the DC at Auburn, but the lack of tackling fundamentals is puzzling when he was head coach. Maybe if you're talent depleted, you're weighing cost/benefit to tackling in practice.

Tampa 2 is a coverage, not a philosophy. It will be interesting to see how he would deal with the offenses of today.

I have no idea on CGC as DC. We had a tremendous defense in 2004 & and in his years as head coach I have never seen a greater lack of basic fundamentals than what I witnessed. Malzahn kept CGC from looking like an even greater fool IMO because our offenses could put up some yards.

Before Chiz left he decided to hire an outside security firm to enforce curfew for players that lived both on and off campus.

As a DC, none of these guys hold a candle to Chizik. His failure as a head coach clouds some memories, but Chiz was/is a hell of a DC.

Ok. That's why so many teams were begging him last year or even now to join their staff

He is on a paid vacation courtesy of Auburn right now. If he coached anywhere it would be for free.

He might as well take it easy and do a little TV for a couple of years.

I think Chizik is a decent tv commentator, so too bad he can't relax and watch other coaches be second guessed.
