Kiffin obviously doesn't need the money so who are we to judge his career choices.

He'll put in 2 years then move to the NFL.

Boca is a great place, but 300K per year there won't get you very far. He won't be slumming, but he won't be close to living the same lifestyle either (without tapping into his nest egg.) Layla better start hunting for a sugar dad because those alimony checks are about to get thin asap.

T-Bob Hebert had a good observation last night, that being that Kiffin's career since 2007 looks like a resume with employment history in reverse.

This is how it's supposed to work:

HC, FAU
OC, Bama
HC, USC
HC, Tenn
HC, Oakland Raiders

I can respect that. He's going to forego immediate gratification for a possible larger reward later. If he has even one good year at FAU he'll be looking more attractive to power 5 schools.

Benjamin Button style. He's heading to the high school ranks next. Hopes to latch on with a PeeWee team by the time he's 60.

He's not a head coach type but he's too big of a douche to accept it.

His football mind is very good and he grew up in the game. It's his character that is lacking. He is who he is.

By your logic why negotiate at all? You seriously think those guys dont care about 300 large? Ah well Bammer i guess you are serious. Kiffin to agent. Dont worry about the 300k im good. Lol yeah right
The only way he gets a power 5 HC job is making a step like this. Plus, if the rumors were true at Bama, moving to another school to be an OC is taking a step back at this point in his career.

He's more than willing to sacrifice $1M over 3 years to make it back plus a few more in one year if he's successful and gets a good power 5 HC gig.

Well Kiffin pretty much did this to himself. He's had all the big jobs and failed them all.

Now he will have to take his lumps at a garbage job to prove he can actually run things rather than just be a top assistant.

Kiffin was making more at Bama as OC ($1.4M / season) than he will as HC at FAU ($1.0 M /season).

If he was strictly looking for maximum money right away, he would've stayed at Bama or came to LSU as OC. But he wants to be HC again at a major program, but based on his history he knows that to get consideration for any big HC jobs that he would have to take over an entire program prove he could be successful as a HC, not just a coordinator. Basically he's betting on himself, taking a pay cut in the short term knowing that if he has good success at FAU, bigger schools will come calling within a few years.
