That we'll have a new OC within a week of the announcement? I think that O was just holding out hope for Kiffin. With him taken off the board, things will speed up. Imo

Kiffin should've never been the top target.

Yes, but I don't know why that is surprising. It seems perfectly logical for Kiffin to tell Orgeron that he will come to LSU if he doesn't get a head coaching job.

It's also not unreasonable for Orgeron to wait a week or so for this to play out. That's not "holding out hope" IMO.

Possibly. Who knows? Orgeron may already have a short list of candidates, maybe he's already done some groundwork (I actually have more faith in him, than I do Alleva, in this regard.) I don't necessarily know that the new OC would be announced before the bowl game ... maybe. Seems to me that Applewhite is currently unemployed (isn't he?) and I think he would be a very good hire, and one that could be made quickly (?)

It's good that if Houston was going to hire Kiffin, they did it quickly ... it removes him from Orgeron's radar, and he can move on to Plan B, C, D.

I think Applewhite or Gilbert would be fairly quick hires, if O decides to go that way; if he wants a guy like Canada, that would likely take a longer time for discussion and negotiation.

No. Steele didn't notify Miles until after the bowl game and LSU didn't hire Aranda until Jan 1st. I think our next OC is currently employed and will honor his contract through the bowl game. Eaux Canada...

Why? If he didn't go to Catholic, nobody would know his name except maybe as the worst of what seems like 7-8 OCs at Bama during Saban's tenure.

I sure hope it comes quickly. There would be no reason to wait unless O hasnt started interviewing other candidates, but what type of jackass school would just do nothing with their ample time to find the right coach for the right job? Hmmmmm....

Did anybody see what it says in the binder about this? I know there are some posters here that are close to the program and have access to said binder. TIA

Like I've said a trillion times. Give me Riley or Canada. I wouldn't be mad if we ended up with Kiffin, even though I don't think he comes here.

Have y'all never seen assistant coaches being hired? It almost never happens before the bowl games. Like, never. Anything before then would be gravy, but is likely to only be coaches that aren't at bowls(I.e who got fired). That's one of the few reasons why I think Helfreich would be a great hire. But if we are sitting here in December 31st with no new OC, it's not that big of a deal. That's how these things go.

No.

I don't think we can begin and complete a search within a week.

I do. I have a suspicion that you don't though. Why do you think he's the top target?

Recruiting. Some players may like to know who will be coaching them on offense. LSU has had quite a bit of time to do their homework for a head coach and OC. They should have at least 3-6 potential candidates right now, and should also know how interested those candidates are in the position.

Every person on this board knows that the OC is already on staff after they beat Louisville they will remove the interim tag
