I think Smart is as solid a hire as you can make in the "major school hiring coordinator" category.

But, it's still a little uninspiring. N

Look theres a bunch of people who made fun of us for keeping richt and "underachieving" and a bunch of people who make fun of us for firing him. There will be people who say CKS isn't a good hire and some, if we'd have gone in another direction, that would have said "y'all have the resources to pay some serious coordinators why not take a chance on Smart?"

Just gonna have to wait and see what we got planned for the OC

No way Muschamp leaves to be a DC somewhere else.

I believe I would also. Muschamp needs to stay at AU a couple more years.

Not a shocker at all...As good DC Muschamp is, he and Smart are experts on the same side of the ball..Smart will need a wow factor OC to compliment the defensive side of the ball...good get Georgia

This could be a good move for them. If he works out, they have a very young coach who they can keep for a long time.

I'm kinda jealous that their athletic department has balls

Pelini did in '08, but I want to say he had to get permission from Nebraska first.

It's mind boggling how many head coaches coached under Saban. He should get finder-fees on all these hires.

Say he gets that wow factor OC.. And the OC moves on to a HC position in 2 years. Then you hire another OC who's a bust, so you fire him and hire another-each one starting from scratch trying to implement their offense on a side of the ball the head coach doesn't have any real knowledge of. The danger of hiring a DC in an offensive era is you end up like Muschamp at Florida, a revolving door of OCs with no stability. You have a great D sure, but completely inept on offense. Can't win that way anymore. Offenses are too good.

And why does a high profile DC need to hire another expensive high profile DC to coach his defense?

I'd much rather have stability on offense. The transition is much easier changing DCs than OCs. Hope it works out for Georgia but they've waited out Richt for so long I felt like they deserved a proven head coach. Mullen would have crawled to Athens and that guy can manufacture some offense. He made Chris Relf a decent QB.

Hope it works out.

It seems they fired him to hire someone to win a national championship quickly

Why does everyone assume this. Yes a natty would be fantastic, but most uga fans I know understand that this is likely not going to happen in the next 1-3 years.

Yes Richt was a really good coach and he won a lot of games but as a fan it was the maddening losses and underwhelming performances that drove us crazy. For once I want uga to live up to its hype. Maybe smart is the guy to get that done for us.

I doubt Smart would leave Alabama before their season was over.

I think it is a Saban rule. In order to coach for him you have pledge to finish the season.
