Wasn't A&M supposed to win a national title this season?

I think leach, with a big time defensive coord would be good. I also think Mark Dantonio might do good. But yes they need a big name head coach and a big Defensive coord.

A&M forced out Sherman, now they'll pay for it. You watch.

We will pay for it only if we make a stupid hire without conducting a real coaching search... Which sounds exactly like what we are doing... The more things change the more they stay the same...

Exactly. If you're going to force out your coach, you better have a damn good coach lined up.

Sumlin with a top flight D-coordinator and some excellent recruiters in Texas could be dangerous.

I agree. He's a native of College Station, to boot. He'd be perfect.

Some of you guys are crazy. Spurrier's offense ripped up some pretty good D's while he was at UF. All it takes is an offensive minded HC with a bad arse DC. Plus, Sumlin being a minority coach at a big time TX program is going to be scary to UT. He will be able to get the big time players to A&M and if they can make a home run hire at DC, A&M will be more than fine.

FWIW A&M fans, Sumlin was in my top 3 to take over UF's job last year. I wanted him to bring in a big time DC though. Hopefully he can do that for you guys.

Please provide evidence of high end recruits flocking to a school upon the hiring of a black coach. Everyone assumed black players would naturally want to play for black head coaches more but it has yet to happen, even after schools like Notre Dame and Miami hired black coaches.

Also, "bad arse" D coordinators tend to avoid offense first head coaches for the simple reason that it is hard to play great defense when your offense is airing it out with either 3 and outs or quick strike scoring. Defenses need long, sustained drives.

Miami did sign a top 3 class in Shannon's first year.

Also, Charlie Strong infiltrated S. FL and recruited several good players to Louisville.

It does happen.

That's true. Sumlin's offense can be ball control or very aggressive. I've seen him call both kinds of games.

more important to look at where he coaches and recruits..Houston.

as far as his offense: he ran a pro-style when he was OC at Oklahoma. He's done a little bit of everything.

Believe it or not, our offense RIGHT NOW( and next year-none of the starting Olinemen are seniors) is suited for long, sustained drives. we went away from it(bless Sherman's heart) and that's what made this season for A&M so got damn infuriating.

Excellent point. Quick strike offenses do zero favors for their defense. It would be interesting to find a statistically decent defense on one of those offense-first teams.
