Auburn is probably paying him to keep him contained within the "family" ... that way, he's less likely to spill the beans.

Coordinators are the most underrated pieces of a college football program. Whether you realize it or not, Malzahn is the catalyst for Auburn's undefeated season and Cam Newton's Heisman-winning campaign. For two years, in Tulsa of all places, he had the best offense in the country. And in two years at Auburn, he turned the offense from anemic to explosive. $1.3 mil is nothing for a guy who makes the kind of impact Malzahn has.
