I would have liked to have had him as the DL coach and whatever capacity in recruiting but I had reservations about his ability to get along with other coaches especially Chavis. It is hard for a man who has been "the head man in charge" to play second-fiddle to anyone. I don't begrudge him for going to UT and wish him well especially against Bama and Florida. Personally, UT's hire of Kiffin is second only to Auburns in quality. I think both teams are in for a few looonnng seasons!

Gary Crowton disproves this point. I've never understood all this talk about Orgeron not being a good fit. There is no evidence in his past to suggest that to be true.

As with most jobs, it came down to the highest bidder.

Smokin,
You may be right but he just seems to be one with a huge ego that would have make it hard for him to submit to another coaches authority. As far as Crowton is concerned I have never gotten perceived this type of attitude from him.

You can't:

1) Hire Chavis, and put him in charge of a Defense
2) Pay a DL coach MORE than Chavis
3) Tell them to work together
4) Tell Larry Porter- "I think you are great, but Ed is now the Associate Head Coach".
5) Tell Josh Henson - " You've done a great job, but Ed is now the Recruiting Coordinator".
6) Live hapily ever after.

While I am all for stacking the staff with talent, this may be a blessing as far as chemistry to the staff.

Remember, Crowton is a Mormon. They operate differently.

At any rate I still believe, for the long haul, a great NON-HIRE!

Obviously he did not want to be here. We will be fantastic next year and years to come witout him. Plenty of qualified coaches available that will want to be here.

I actually think Kiffin is going to be an excellent coach especially with his dad there.

Amen, I think Les was getting a lot of pressure from some boosters and money people to hire Orgeron.Personally, I'm glad it didn't work out.Let the new DC hire who he wants to coach the DL. Someone that fits his scheme. Orgeron is all mouth and hype.

This is the best summary of the O situation. We are fortunate he went to Tennessee -- now Chavis and Les can put together their staff and let the Chief lead. We don't need Orgeron to recruit since recuruiting is the best it has ever, ever been at LSU.

Then, you're

I don't have any use for or wish anybody well that blows off LSU and makes them look second rate, especially a native Louisianian.........

All good points, plus we're not exactly hurting in the recruiting arena. I heard LSU's max offer was $425 which is still a lot for a position coach. Tenn gave him $625 plus probably promises to be the DC when Daddy retires.
