follow up: what is scarier?

1. nobody said no and Les chose Steele because he truly thinks Steele is the best available DC candidate

or

2. everybody said no and LSU is truly on tDecline and nobody of quality wants to work at LSU under Les

I want to know the salary. If they lowballed salary that will speak volumes about what happened.

1. Les knew he could get Steele and not have to worry about Brick & Raymond leaving. The "contact" with everyone else was due diligence and the "contact" with Kirby was a reference check on Steele.

I have never seen a fan base unanimously reject a hire as I have with this one. I know that I am always negative on here, but I really want to give the guy a chance before we roast him, but simply reading this board, and hearing the last few minutes of Moscona's show has me scared for the vibe in Tigerland. There is much anger right now.

2 is way scarier.

I'm on record as saying the search was a complete failure. I believe that.

The reasons aren't clear, but I think one real possibility is that Miles is not going to be here for long one way or another...and that could easily keep candidates away.

FYI, I don't think many said no. I think the big candidates stayed away. And, I think Miles couldn't find someone who was a clear great hire...so he went with the candidate that could coach LBs.

they had better have lowballed the salary

if we're paying Kevin fricking Steele 7-figures then LSU is a goddamn joke

We hired a former NFL offensive coordinator two years ago. Today, we hired a guy that couldn't win more than one conference game at Baylor, had to have Bama resurrect his career, gave up 70 points in a bowl game, and might have mental health issues. I'd say we can roast the hire.

I'm thinking it's

1. nobody said no and Les chose Steele because he truly thinks Steele is the best available DC candidate

most likely. this would be the first outside hire Miles has missed on. When Miles fricks up, he fricks up huge and at the worst possible times.

this is what happens when you only look at big names, instead of actually doing a proper search. big names aren't making lateral moves and schools are willing to pay to keep them.

Option 1, and it's easily the scariest. This is the most blatant good ole boy hire I've ever seen. Option 2 I could at least chock up to timing.

If we offered Shoop or Pendergast a six-figure salary, then LSU is a goddamned joke

You left out that while head coach at Baylor he also gave up 70 points in a regular season game to Cal and another 62 to Texas Tech.

Given Leslie's judgement re: QBs as an example, you can't rule this out. However, this:

quote:

2. everybody said no and LSU is truly on tDecline and nobody of quality wants to work at LSU under Les

Seems more likely, given the amount of time this dragged out.
