Yep if you don't think Red will do everything he can to oust Charlie and get who ever it is he wants in there you are daft. We all know he won't get the guy he wants but he will wreck shite trying to.

Funny when I asked if Texas would hire an African American I was dismissed as a trouble maker. Credit to them they did but how the boosters treat him we shall see.
That's some funny shite right there that both Texas A+M and the University of Texas hired Black coaches with decent (But not phemononal) records/credentials and grossly over paid them 5 Million smackers per year just to prove to rest of the country that they're not a bunch of racists!

Watch what happens at A+M this season minus JFF and still no defense.

Too early for Strong, but I'll give that three years.

I feel sorry for Strong but Texas is finished as a national power as long as this keeps up.

Anyone that pushed this Saban to Texas tripe needs professional help.

Yep, and the same exact things are happening.

Like Michigan, Texas didn't get their target (UM-Miles, UT-Saban et al) and had to "settle" for another coach who was an odd fit.

This won't end well.

Strong will be fine if he wins. Frankly it will be refreshing to measure a coach by wins rather than how good of friends he is with the right boosters.

Lots of piling on by people that have no clue about hiring for a State of Texas job. Everyone has to interview, every job has to be posted and there is always a mandatory delay. I am all about hammering Texas when warranted, but this is just people trying to pile on because they want to.

The push back seems to be by the AD over the OC. The former OC from Louisville is not really the caliber of coach that UT can get away going after and it is the AD's job to remind Strong of that. There is a difference between having a blank check and bringing in those that the coach is comfortable with after looking at the best possible choices vs. taking those that the coach is comfortable with from his previous staff.

Lets not forget that this is pretty much a bottomless pit as far as funding goes and bringing in the UL OC is not going to cut it from both a flash hire perspective for recruiting and from the quality of hire from the view point of OC's available industry wide. Strong's DC has the chops due to performance and Strong's defensive pedigree. He doesn't have that luxury on the offensive side of the ball.

But therein lies the problem for Coach Strong. Mack Brown proved you can survive on so-so results if you handle the politics right at Texas.

That means Strong gets a much shorter leash than he would have otherwise out the gate- much less than Saban or even a more political coach like Dabo. So he needs to win very soon, no opportunity for him to do a rebuilding project if that is what is needed (might not be).

But he is a good coach, he might knock it out the park early on.

It took the 2000's for that to change at Bama from the 2nd part of the above statement.

It took the Saban hire to fix ya'lls dumpster fire....when he is gone it will be back. Trust me!

He wanted to bring in Shawn as his OC and was shot down. He is going to get to hire whoever he wants from two approved candidates.

Two things.

Your first paragraph is actually not accurate. There are exceptions - broad ones - to the posting/waiting period laws.

People assume Strong always wanted to bring in Watson but his public comments actually refute this notion, mainly because Watson does not have Texas ties and is not known as a spread offense guy.

I have no idea who he will bring in however. I agree that if you have a blank check you shoot for the stars but there is something to be said for bringing in someone that you're comfortable with. The all star lineup doesn't always win.

Strong may have a short leash but he'll get at least 4 years, imo. We don't need anymore coaches being absolved of their failures by donors.

No way he gets 4 years if he has 1 losing record he is gone.

Looking at OSU OC Mike Yurcich is so meh.

I think year 3 will be critical, people are going to expect a conf championship by then, fair or not (I think it's fair). But if the trend is still positive he'll be fine. A losing record will be considered a meltdown and will cause him a problem, as it should any new coach.

Let's look at the difference than.

Kevin Sumlin, when he left Houston hired these individuals as coordinators:

Kliff Kingsbury (OC/QB) - took with him from UH

BJ Anderson (OL) - took with him from UH

Clarence McKinney (RB) - took with him from UH (former HS coach in Houston)

David Beatty (WR) - took from Kansas (former HS coach in Dallas)

Brian Poilian (TE/ST) - took from Stanford

Mark Snyder (DC) - Took from South Florida

Terry Price (DL) - Took from Ole Miss

Mark Wallerstedt (LB) - Took from Air Force

Marcel Yates (DB) - Took from Boise State

Can't completely rate Strong's hires because he hasn't completed his staff. What should be GREATLY concerning is the fact that he doesn't have his staff finalized (the staff does the bulk of the recruiting) with less than 3 weeks before signing day.

I'm sure this is the case at more schools than we think. In this case it happens to be at one of the biggest jobs in CFB and has come with controversy (i.e. Red McCombs comments) , probably not going to mean a thing long term once the hires are made. I doubt even Nick Saban is the 100% dictator at Bama. There were sexual assault/harassment issues among the previous Texas staff, and I'm sure there is some input from people at Texas about the environment and what type of guys have been known to work.

Riddle me this Batman: If Mack was sacked for 9 win seasons, aren't you supposed to deliver at least that or better? Gus did in his 1st year.
