SB Nation reporting:
Brady Hoke (NOT Jim Harbaugh) In Line To Replace Rich Rodriguez At Michigan

Read More: rich rodriguez, jim harbaugh, brady hoke, ryan ermani, Michigan Wolverines, Stanford Cardinal

According to the same people that reported the firing of Rich Rodriguez as Michigan Wolverines head coach, Stanford Cardinal head coach Jim Harbaugh is NOT the primary target for athletic director Dave Brandon, but instead San Diego St. Aztecs head coach Brady Hoke. Ryan Ermanni of FOX 2 in Detroit was just on ESPN News with Linda Cohn, and reported that his sources close to the situation are telling him Hoke will be the guy to end up the job. Despite 90% of Michigan people wanting Harbaugh, Harbaugh apparently has turned away from Ann Arbor.

Hoke, like Harbaugh, is a Michigan man, having coached the defensive line under Lloyd Carr from 1995 to 2002. While he lacks the appeal of Stanford football's leader, Hoke seems to have a resume similar to that of Harbaugh--he turned around the Ball St. Cardinals over a six year period and led them to 7-6 and 12-1 season before moving onto San Diego State. In two years he took them to the Pointsettia Bowl and led them to a victory over Navy and a 9-4 finish. He clearly has shown the turnaround ability Harbaugh exhibited with the Cardinal. His defensive pedigree also will be much needed for a team that's been lacking defense of any sorts for the last few years.

Perhaps those early rumors about Harbaugh losing interest in the maize and blue weren't as far-fetched as originally thought. Which makes you wonder exactly what soured the Harbaugh-to-Michigan deal in the first place.

The people really cheering are in Palo Alto and in San Francisco, who thought Harbaugh was as good as gone as early as a week ago; their chances at keeping or landing him respectively just skyrocketed. But don't rejoice yet Cardinal fans; Ermani also said it's almost certain Harbaugh is going to the NFL. And so it continues.

So simple to write something like this and then BAMMMMM Michigan set to hire Miles. Hoke already signed an extension with San Diego State.

Hoke could be as large a gamble as RR was. I just can't see Michigan hiring someone who doesn't have major college coaching experience. Big East isn't a big boy, even though its a BCS conference.

Hoke DID sign a extension through 2015, and his buyout ($1.5 million) is LARGER than Les' ($1.25 million).
quote:

The university announced that Hoke has signed a contract extension through 2015, suggesting that any rumors of him leaving the San Diego State sidelines have been silenced—for now.

quote:

If Hoke decides to leave the program before 2015, his buyout clause will remain at $1.5 million.

EDIT: The article says "signed" in reference to the extension. Supposedly, the final details were to be finalized by the end of Dec. I'm trying to see if it was finalized.

WVU was one game away from playing in the National Championship when RR was there. Louiville, WVU, Rutgers and USF were all ranked for a few years there.

Not So Fast

This is a much more recent article which seems to say otherwise.

It's not nearly on the level of the B10. MWC is every bit as good as the B=East. Both are slightly glorified mid majors.

Yep, look at my edit. The extension was agreed to "in principle", but I can't find out if it was ever finalized and signed. I also don't know if the buyout was part of that as well. Hoke might be free and clear.

For what its worth, it says Hoke's buyout clause will remain at 1.5 million. This suggest that even if he hasn't signed the extension, it is already part of his current contract.

Either way, I still think they hire Hoke. Nothing to base this on other than my gut feeling, which is right about 21.467% of the time.

OK thanks. On Hoke: I think there are just too many players behind the scenes at Michigan that all want "their guy". He would be safe hire for the program, but won't get the fans pumped.

21.467%? That's a specific percentage.
