Gundy had to get rid of 11 high value/starter/lettermen type players his first year. LM has a penchant for thugs, allowing drug usage, and lack of discipline.
see TM7 and JJ.
Even if in the realm of possibilities, that hire never would have made it past the BOT approval process.

quote:it was truly epic. Jeff Long offered you a chance at success and you turned it down out of fear of that same success. I mean you just lost BMFP who is a great coach but a shite human and Jeff said HERE! here is a coach that has had more success than BMFP ever dreamed of having AND he's not a shithead. Your response? No thanks.
Ultimate troll job by our AD..
This is absolutely fascinating seeing an entire culture of fans so unfamiliar with what success is that when its offered to them they turn it down.
If I were still in college I'd write a paper on you assholes.

Somehow I think CLM would have squeaked through.

Yeah it was pure genius move by Long. Kind of like putting Clinton on the rest of the country-cause y'all wanted him out of Arkansas.

They're scared to admit the AD made an offer and are in full damage control/denial mode

Here's what happened.
Someone (I won't name him), told Miles how much Arkansas was going to offer another coach, and it was a lot. Some would consider it overpaying for that coach, and it was more than Miles was currently making. Miles had his agent reach out to Long asking if Arkansas would offer him 5 years, $27.5 million. This caught Long off guard (as it should, neither Long or anyone else ever thought of reaching out to Miles) and Long listened to the agent.
Long took the call, as he should. Miles has 3 SEC West championship seasons, he has won the SEC twice, won a BCSNC, he is an outstanding recruiter, his kids play hard for him and he's a top 10 coach. Long seized the opportunity and agreed to talk. They talked, and as Miles admitted it never went anywhere. It appears they talked more about other coaches for the opening than hiring Miles.

Why are the Hog fans still in full up spin mode? So what if your AD made him an offer. He has won a boatload of SEC games...makes sense that he was considered. Its over now so move on.

sorry your state sucks bro. That's gotta be rough knowing you literally have no shot at winning anything ever.
Nice deflection, since that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.
You highly educated LSU guys (I'm feeling nice this morning) want to know how ANYONE would want to avoid Miles. I answered. Miles at OSU = 57% winning percentage. Miles at LSU = 81%.
Louisiana = HIGHEST per capita NFL athletes of any state
He's a good coach, but he wouldn't get the recruits needed to be great at Arkansas. We need a great X's and O's coach, a great recruiter (not one that can just call up the top 25 guys in his state most years and expect commitments - especially since Arkansas doesn't even PRODUCE half of that in terms of SEC athletes), and a good game day coach.
If he ain't all of those things, why would Arkansas fans be happy? Miles isn't all of those things. Gary Patterson, for instance, is someone that would fill all of those voids. Miles is a good fit for LSU, but a terrible fit for Arkansas. He'd be a good fit for Alabama, Texas, Florida, Ohio State, Michigan, etc. But I just don't think he could raise a program above it's relative recruiting position like Petrino did with his game planning and execution.
We could do worse, sure. But until a long list of innovative coaches turned us down, I would not be happy with a guy who won 57% of his games at Arkansas, oops Okie State, the last time he was there.

So now the spin is that Miles just kinda trolled Long? This is good stuff. Keep it coming.

The single dumbest thing posted to date. Damn them hillbillies are trying to spin this shite into something positive.

I'm sure this has been covered in this thread but we didn't want your damn coach. He is good for LSU, he would be bad for Arkansas. Every well-informed fan knows this and we were NOT excited about the possibility of this happening...as small as it was.
ETA: Has nothing to do with thinking we're too good. LSU fans are sure funny to talk about that, though.

It's been said. Tard fans can't accept that fact though.

quote:not a deflection; your state sucks talent wise by your own words. I'm agreeing with you. You haven't won an SEC title because of that, you need a pink unicorn coach that is a great at everything to make you relevant and i think the odds of you getting that coach to come to Arkansas are slim.

Okie State BTW was pretty terrible before Miles got the job and he built them into relevancy before taking the LSU job. To compare Okie State then to Arkansas now is a diservice to Arkansas. You are a middle of the road SEC team but you don't suck so that comparison of win percentages is probably not accurate. Unless you're right and you do suck as bad as Okie State did when Miles took over..... let me know if you think so.

I'm not saying we're all right about Les, but I don't want to see any more LSU fans claim we were excited about the possibility and that we are now backtracking to save face.
We were melting down pretty hard when that one came out.
Just show's how ignorant people are. you were melting down because you may get one of the top five coaches in american. Geeze, eat up with some dumbass, there.
lets go get some coach who is better than les miles but hasn't done what he has. that's priceless gold.

I went to Fayetteville for the first time this year. I know it was Thanksgiving weekend, but that was the least loud, rowdy stadium I have ever seen/heard. The stadium was nice, but that's about the only nice thing on campus. The campus in Fayetteville is the least attractive SEC campus I have visited.
The only reason Arkansas is even a second tier SEC school in football is the money, so Arkansas is a perfect fit for a slimey frick like Petrino or his ilk.
Sorry, Arkansas - you really do suck at being a cool SEC football venue. I could understand you not wanting Miles and LSU not wanting Miles (he does make some questionable game calls), but the ONLY thing you have going for you is deep pockets.

No, you're obviously too dumb or have tunnel vision. You don't understand that Miles can't develop talent worth a shite. Can he coach good talent? Sure. But he can't develop or coach them up and that's what we need, considering we don't have overflowing talent in our backyard.
