I'm 5 books in to the Sandrrson world. Finished the Mistborn trilogy and just finished Shadows of Self. I like series so far but it's not living up to the hype. Does it get better or should I just accept that the series is just ok?
I think Mistborn Era 1, when revisiting it, is clearly amateur.
The Wax and Wayne books are MUCH better. If you don't see the difference that would be...interesting.
Stormlight is great.

Yeah it was his first work and he has very clearly grown as a writer since then. It's still worth the read, especially if you're into this genre and the rules of the universe and backstory is awesome, but the characters themselves and overall story aren't up to the standards Stormlight sets. It can't hold a candle to his later works. Stormlight is fantastic.

Yeah, I've never understood the extreme love for the original Mistborn trilogy by some. It's a solid series with an exceptional magic system, but very limited prose and characters.
Wax and Wayne books are fantastic though.

I started on Mistborn for the first time after finishing my last reread of SA. It’s definitely not the same and I’m struggling with it. It’s decent, but it is no SA.

Revisiting Mistborn Era 1 a decade later was tough. Its just not well done, to be honest.
Mistborn Era 2 is much better.

Moash is such a piece of shite.
I find Shallan less annoying after her talk with Wit. I always enjoy when Wit shows up.
Szeth continues to get more and more interesting. As does Adolin.
One thing I’ll say about Sanderson is he doesn’t hesitate to kill someone. It’s one thing that makes these books great. Main characters are never really safe.

Damn when Dalinar mercilessly kills Kalanor after their battle on the jagged mountain was brutal
Can y'all warn of, or better yet avoid, spoilers. Some of us aren't there yet.

These words are accepted
I assume you finished Oathbreaker. That makes you an hornary member of r/frickmoash . Though you don't become a true member till after RoW. Have you started that yet?

Stormlight Archives - Spoilers and Discussion thread
I made this entire thread for Cosmere spoiler discussion. And you should stop reading it now. Because there are more spoilers ahead

Just finished Oathbreaker. Trying to decide if I want to push straight into RoW or take a break and read Frugal Wizards Guide. Just got my hard copy in the mail

Secret project 3 audio book is released and it is based in the cosmere.
Haven’t had a chance to get into it yet, but looking forward to more exposure and worlds in the system.

Which did you like better the Sanderlanche of WoR or Oathbreaker?
I finished Frugal Wizards's Guide a couple weeks ago. It's good (not great) but also quicker read as it's only 400 pages.

Frugal is the weakest of the secret projects so far. 40% secret project three and liking it maybe not quite as much as Tress but close. Ps Dawnshard is a novella between Oathbringer and RoW that’s a good read.

So I should read Tress? I haven’t read any of the secret projects yet.

Just finished Dawnshard. Good for The Lopen.
On to RoW

WoR for sure. Oathbringer was awesome but WoR was all time GOAT material.

yes, I liked it quite a lot

Tress was great, just finished secret project 3 and recency bias might be showing up but think it was better than tress. Can wait til after stormlight and lost metal though. Fun one offs with some interesting cosmere easter eggs sprinkled in.

Vasher may be my current favorite character in the Cosmere. Loving ROW so far about 300 pgs in.
