Hi! New to the board. Thanks for the add.

I’m taking advantage of Audibles 0.99 deal and was curious if you guys could recommend a good listen. I’ve recently really gave listening to a book a shot and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Finished The Bombing Mafia. So that gives you an idea on the type of subject I enjoy.

American war history, WWII, CIA, Secret Service, North Korea. Obviously American history is in my wheelhouse. I heard someone a few months back talking about a book about WWII from Japans perspective. I would also entertain something from the German perspective also.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys!

“Audio books” are not books. They’re bedtime stories. Reading is not the same as listening.

The Rising Sun by John Toland. Excellent book that helps explain why a small island nation took on a giant. Dan Carlan's hardcore history covers it too and that is free on Spotify.

Maybe not your thing but I really enjoyed these.

I just finished Shoe Dog, Bob Knights story of starting Nike.

Bob Iger has a great book that goes through the history of Disney. Almost any pop culture item of Disney over the last 30 years, he had his hands in. It’s very impressive journey from intern to CEO.

If you like espionage stuff...
The John Le Carre novels on Audible.
I listened to The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. Narration is very good.

The Spy Who Came In From The Cold; Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy; and Smiley's People is such a great trilogy. Game, Set, Match trilogy of spy novels by Len Deighton is almost as good.

-Halfway through Midnight in Chernobyl and it’s great

Really enjoying that

-Any of Douglas Murray’s 3 books ( war on the west/ madness of crowds/ strange death of Europe ) - although I don’t think these are really what you’re looking for

Anything narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds. Legends of the First Empire, Riyria Chronicles and Red Rising are all epic and great listens.

All of the Malcolm Gladwell books are fantastic. He narrates himself. They are flat good…
