IF the Kingsguard where protecting Lyanna is plausible that she was married to Rhaegar, as Targs where known to have multiple wives.

IF, Lyanna was married to Rhaegar, then Jon Snow is Jon Targaryen.

Which is what I believe to be 100% and that will come out soon. I also think GRRM is upset at this, because he wanted it to be a shocker, instead it's the worst kept secret of the books.

Well when it takes you 10 years to write a book there is plenty of time for book nerds like ourselves to tease everything out from clues.

Hell, even the dumbass hodors can tease things out from the show.

Exactly. And with the invention of the internet, of course people are going to have theories about Jon's parents.

If Jon Snow, is Jon Targaryen, and Aegon is really Rhaegar's son by Elia, wouldn't Aegon still be the heir because he would be Rhaegar's oldest son?

It's been about a year+ since I read this but during my reading that is exactly who I thought his parents were. Didnt even think it was supposed to be a secret.

Or did they lead us to believe he was a Baratheon? Now I'm starting to second guess myself.

A perfect example of this in my mind is when GRRM used to put obscure riddles up on his blog about who was cast in a certain role. People would figure that out in minutes. It was like he thought he was so clever, "ah, but alas, my readers have foiled me again"

Technically yes...unless he's Aegon Blackfyre.

yea i figured as much

still wish HBO would do a season of Dunk and Egg as a place holder while waiting for the books, but that would just piss off the actors who have been/will be devoting a decade to this series

If they weren't married, there would be absolutely no cause for the Kings guard. The only real reason for them to be there is if they were married.

Yeah the editor said "certainly not this year". He really needs an early 2015 release if he wants any hope of concluding the books before the show catches up, and even then it will be highly unlikely.

He has released about 10 sample chapters. At this rate he may share the entire book in "samples" before WoW is actually released.

Depends. First, all of said above has to be true. Then they both have to survive until that crossroad. Then Jon has to go for the iron throne, I think he is more likely to claim the King of the North. Then there is the possibility that Rhaegar named Jon as his heir. In short, nobody knows.

Imagine when these would be released had this show not ever happened.

Might not even happen. At least not from GRRM

Been saying this awhile. It's why I refuse to read any of them.

Wrong. He has said multiple times that he writes for smart people. David and Dan were asked the question "who is Jon Snow's mother" and they apparently answered correctly or they would not have the show. He's said before that he doesn't do things his way for shock value he does it because it has to happen. It's why he created this grey world. He looked at other narratives and saw that the hero always wins, but he said they're are no heroes and the people that the readers are made to like don't always win. He doesn't care if people find out what happens. He's not Quentin Tarentino.

I honestly think a bridge season/mini season is going to be necessary. They are going to need to show/talk about more in depth on Robert's Rebellion before the end of the show.

In between the 2nd to last season and the last season, giving them an extra year, giving GRRM time to catch up, etc.

Seeing Lyanna Stark, Rhaegar, the Mad King, the events that led to R+L=J, the Tower and all that...I think its pretty necessary.

Exactly; Ned even mentions to the Kingsguard as to why they didn't seek Viserys out at Dragonstone. I've posted the conversation before and I'll post it again:

“I looked for you on the Trident,” Ned said to them.
“We were not there,” Ser Gerold answered. “Woe to the Usurper if we had been,” said Ser Oswell.
“When King's Landing fell, Ser Jaime slew your king with a golden sword, and I wondered where you were.”
“Far away,” Ser Gerold said, “or Aerys would yet sit the Iron Throne, and our false brother would burn in seven hells.”
“I came down on Storm's End to lift the siege,” Ned told them, and the Lords Tyrell and Redwyne dipped their banners, and all their knights bent the knee to pledge us fealty. I was certain you would be among them.”
“Our knees do not bend easily,” said Ser Arthur Dayne.
“Ser Willem Darry is fled to Dragonstone, with your queen and Prince Viserys. I thought you might have sailed with him.”
“Ser Willem is a good man and true,” said Ser Oswell. “But not of the Kingsguard,” Ser Gerold pointed out. “The Kingsguard does not flee.” “Then or now,” said Ser Arthur. He donned his helm.
We swore a vow,” explained old Ser Gerold. Ned’s wraiths moved up beside him, with shadow swords in hand. They were seven against three.
And now it begins,” said Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. He unsheathed Dawn and held it with both hands. The blade was pale as milkglass, alive with light.
“No,” Ned said with sadness in his voice. “Now it ends.”

Then why werent the kingsguard with the king? More kingsguards to defend the crown prince's concubine/possible second wife than the actual king?
