Would love for BluegrassBelle to come but she lives in Kentucky .
I wish I could. I ate a bunch of my sick days/vacation days when I had surgery in January or otherwise I would. As DMagic said, I travel to the sip on a pretty regular basis (the SO is there). But I've never been to NOLA and would love to go.
We'll have to make it an annual thing or something so I can plan ahead and go next time around.

His goal in that letter was to destroy Jon himself, and it worked. He knew that letter would enrage Jon to action, rally the Wildings/NW and then counted on his brothers killing him for breaking his vows. Ramsay got exactly what he wanted.
Did he actually write the letter though? Stannis has Theon we know from the sample chapter, and even if that's not proof enough they aren't that far from Winterfell. (meaning Stannis and Theon) So why would Ramsay write the letter? They are right there. Ramsay doesn't say anything about Jon or the NW before the letter does he? I just reread ADWD and don't think he did.
I guess I'm asking how in the world would Ramsay foresee Jon reading it, getting pissed, giving an awesome speech, everybody's stoked, and then Jon gets stabbed to death?

I really see no reason to doubt that Ramsay would write that. Just because he didn't mention the Night's Watch before really means nothing. Jon stole his bride and precious Reek from him as far as he is concerned.
And as far as how he knew Jon would do that, its a pretty easy move to calculate. That was the single most insulting, horrifying, and brutal letter ever written. If my sister, my guests, and my personal army were threatened with that kind of filth, I'd go into rage mode and summon them without question just on the concept of being a decent human being. He knew that Jon previously recruited someone to save his sister, so he knew he'd do it again, and his brothers would kill him for breaking his vows.

I'm still convinced by the wording that Stannis wrote it with Theon/Reek's help.

I know ladytiger likes the attention, but we really need more females. We may just have to acquire some when we get to New Orleans. Anyone know if Littlefinger has an establishment in town?

And not even his real sister.

I'll ask my friend that works for David Vitter. I'm sure he knows a few places

I honestly doubt he could have gotten that out of him. Theon would shutter in horror just thinking about how he talked. Even if Theon tried, I don't think he could help compose that letter. I see no reason to doubt that Ramsay wrote it. Sure he lied in it, but it was created to piss off Jon, scare the shite out of the Watch, and then have them kill Jon.

I always have agreed with what you've said in GOT but not this time. It's too huge of a leap for me to say/think Ramsay would know the brothers would kill him.
I do agree that it sounds like Ramsay writing the letter. It sounds like what he would say, a lot. I don't know if because of all the theories and the cliff hanging we are waiting for with the next books leads me that way, but it drives me crazy.
I do love this damn thread

You don't think, at all, that once Theon is with someone else, and safe from Ramsay, that he won't turn on him?

He'd willingly betray him, but to talk like he would talk, I don't think Theon could do it without shivering in terror over what he did to him. In the sample chapters, while very much willing to share information with Stannis, he still cringes and cries when Stannis calls Ramsay a bastard.

It's one of a handful of theories in the story that I really can't make heads or tails of. I'm in the middle of my combined Feast/Dance re-read so hopefully I'll have a better handle on it by the time I'm done with that re-read. No matter what, I don't think the letter is factual.
I'm not sold on Ramsey writing it because the seal and ink seems wrong. Also, no matter what had happened in the battle, Ramsey really had nothing to gain from sending that letter to Jon. Sure, Ramsey loves to be an a-hole, but he is also a calculating a-hole.
I don't think that Stannis wrote it because he is too honorable and stubborn to trick his ally into breaking his vows and coming to his rescue.
I doubt Theon wrote it because he's a shell of a human being, but his defiance in rescuing "Arya" indicated that he may be redeeming himself and regaining his inner strength to stand up to Ramsey.
To me, Mel (with Theon's help) seems to be the most likely author as she would do anything to further the cause of the Lord of Light. She may have seen the Night Watch's betrayal of Jon in the fires and acted to ensure it happened.

Are the released sample chapters collected anywhere? I know I missed a couple, if not a few.

I've never understood the appeal to reading the sample chapters. Isn't this basically spoiling part of the book?
