Lady Maege was among the northern lords who accompanied Robb Stark north from Riverrun to attend the wedding of Edmure Tully. Her heir Dacey was one of those killed during the Red Wedding, however Maege herself survived because Robb had sent her and Galbart Glover to Seagard. There they where to take separate ships from Lord Jason Mallister to sail up the Neck, to search for Greywater Watch as envoys to the crannogmen. She also holds Robb's declaration that names his successor.

wow, I never really paid attention to it, but she is surely a spy. I wonder if any of the non readers have caught on. Can't talk about it there, they are too simple to discern book spoilers from show plot points.

Speaking of Robb's heir, what did he write and where did he send it? He and his mother had a conversation before they left for the wedding. She begged him not to name Jon Snow as his heir. What happened with that? I guess we'll find out.
He sent Maege Mormont with a letter naming Jon the heir. I have no idea where she is.

Wouldn't Jon's declaration of a successor be moot once Bran and Rickon turn up, alive? He's only naming a successor because he thinks his brothers are dead. If they turn up alive, they would take precedence in succession. As would Sansa if she ever gets out alive.
Then again, I think by the end of the books, Bran will be a tree.

It wouldn't be unheard of though if enough things happen to the Starks that the succession falls to Jon. See Aemon Targaryen's situation.

Not if Jon is legitimized.

It is never stated in the books where a legitimized bastard falls in the line of succession. However judging from Catelyns reaction one could assume that he becomes just like the other sons which means he would rank above bran rickon Sansa and arya

Per the Ice and Fire Wiki:
quote:
It is unclear whether a legitimized bastard would be placed in the succession according to birth order, or would be placed at the end, after the trueborn children.[5]
It is...not known?

Why was Cersei/Joffrey so adamant about killing all of Robert's bastards? If the truth had come out, they would be next....no?

Because her kids with Jaime wouldn't be Baratheons, which is the whole reason Joffrey was on the throne to begin with.
Robert's Bastard >>>>>>> Non-legitimized Lannister

Ummm... because Joffrey is not Robert's child, so he is a bastard himself. If the bastards turn up, it weakens Joffrey's claim as a legitimate heir, as it calls into question his own parentage.

Yes because Robert had no living true born children. This is not the case with the Starks. The question of where legitimized bastards stand in the line of succession is still completely open to Martins will.

I gotcha. I didn't read the whole thing from wiki.

Wouldn't Jon need to be out of the Night's Watch to have a claim to anything?
Obviously, it appears he's in the middle of his night's watch retirement party but still.

Catelyn said Jon's claim would beat out Arya's claim
