Thinking about it, it could be cool if they do a parallel episode that is entirely focused on both weddings.

that would be pretty awesome. i definitely wouldnt mind it

id really prefer giving the audience a week to soak in RW though

I'm afraid if they end the season in the last episode with the RW and Arya getting hit in the back of the head with the axe people are going to absolutely lose their shite.

I wouldn't be surprised if they cut that out. In the grand scheme of things, it was just sort of a cheap trick. They might make her just get caught by the Hound.

While I think the idea of having the weddings happen simultaneously would be kind of cool, I think it would take away from each event too much. The RW is pretty much the biggest event in the series to this point. It needs to be given all of the attention it deserves. Also, you need to have some time for Tywin to drop hints that it was his planning all along. There needs to be a feeling of no hope for the "good guys". Then, when the audience is on the edge, you throw them the bone of Joffrey choking on his wine.

Things will most certainly be broken. I have a good friend who's reading the series right now and I'm demanding to be around when he reads the RW.

I'm pretty confident she'll already be caught by the Hound. I'd also remove the axe thing from the show, since unless you kill off Joffrey right then, then tons of people will stop watching. Did anyone NOT page flip after that to make sure Arya wasn't killed?

They have to finish the episode with her getting hit, then the screen going black. People will be absolutely freaking out, but they will come back after talking only about that episode for the rest of the week. Their goal should be to have their watchers break their TV's. I would have burned my book if I could have found a lighter, TV watchers deserve the same.

I meant that instead of stopping her from going into the castle by hitting her in the head with an axe, he will just catch her from behind and run off with her.

Agreed.

GRRM has never been afraid to piss his readers off and the tv show shouldn't either. Call it a cheap trick if you want to but the underlying feeling of hopelessness that smothers you throughout SoS is what makes that book the best of the series. To water that down because you're scared to lose a few viewers doesn't do it justice.

Not only that, but I bet more books get sold because viewers will need to know if she is dead or alive.

Would this timing work? (I assume the season is 10 episodes)

8 - Red Wedding, end with a sequence of Rob being stabbed, cut to Arya getting the axe, then end with Catelyn losing it.

9 - Jon's battle at the wall with the widlings. Every now and then cut to KL with news of the RW spreading.

10 - Purple wedding. Last couple minutes shows a wolf finding dead Cat in the water then Arya wakes up startled. Roll credits.

ETA: Now that I think about it, Jon's battle might be too far into ASOS. I do think my idea for episodes 8 & 10 work, just need something to fit into episode 9.

I know it's going to be in season 4, but I can't wait to see the flaming stag banners coming from the trees as they slaughter Mance's army. Non-book readers will be thinking, where the hell has Stannis been the last few episodes. Then, BAM!

News from Tower of the Hand on the next Dunk & Egg tale and another story set in Westeros (I think).

LINK

Summary from TOTH

quote:

So here's a surprise: the next Dunk and Egg tale will not be part of George R. R. Martin's upcoming Dangerous Women cross-genre anthology, as long anticipated. Instead, the anthology will feature an original novella called "The Princess and the Queen," which GRRM says tells "the true (mostly) story of the origins of the Dance of the Dragons." "The Princess and the Queen"-- along with twenty other cross-genre short stories from various celebrated authors-- has now been delivered to his editors at Tor. While no publication date has been set yet for Dangerous Women, we can probably expect it before the fourth Dunk and Egg tale (re: the She-Wolves of Winterfell), which is suddenly without an announced publication.

GRRM is an a-hole.

I saw his post on this last night, and while these background stories are nice and all, I wish he would instead finish the series. That's what everyone wants. The thing that makes me most mad about this is that after him telling everybody that the new Dunk & Egg would be next, we now have no idea when it's coming out.

Hate to interrupt...but I ran across this on youtube...I remember seeing it before start of S2, and was wanting to share it with y'all if you haven't heard/ seen it. I was really rooting for this guy Joe Campo and his grassroots effort to get on the show as Mance. He's really not bad...has better scenes than this, even one with the actor who played Syrio helping him out.

Maybe he'll beep trying as Griff or at least a Golden Co. hand with SOME lines...

anyway, check him out:

eta: this is a better shot of his "charisma" dude is an actor, I think

ok, so I'm still Youtubin' it at work (F-it, it's my befrigged birthday, so they're lucky I'm here at all) and was thinking about subtle differences from books vs. series...wondering if GRRM and writers might use the show to "emphasize" or "clarify" episodes/ happenings in the books that have been mis-interpereted or missed altogether.

Of course, I started looking at Aerys/ Tywin relationships and found this "History and Lore" series from the GOT DVD extras...very interesting how the same story is told by different POVs...

in the link, I started with Robert's POV, followed by Tywin's re: King Aerys. Shitload of interesting stuff in these extras. Enjoy.
