I finished ADWD last night. I had seen this thread but was avoiding it like the pale mare. My mind has been blown with some of these theories. Now I'm gonna have to start a re-read pretty quickly. I can't wait to see a lot of the things I missed the first time.

Great thread

I've been trying to get my crackpot going with Jorah Mormont as my inspiration. As far as the end of his story, I think he meets Jon Snow, learns of his fathers dying wish and becomes the new lord commander of the Night's Watch.

The more I look into Jorah though, the more theories come about. If he is to survive and make it back to Westeros, he will surely have to reconcile with Dany. If he does so, he will arrive in King's Landing by her side. Obviously nothing will remove him from his queens side, with the exception of one of their's death. So crackpot on, Jorah will survive Slaver's Bay, make it to Westeros, see his Queen die as Nissa Nissa, and kneel to the true King, Jon Targaryen.

After my third, and what I'm telling myself final, re-read of the first 5 installments of Song, my favorite way to look at things now is to take somewhat Secondary characters, like Jorah Mormont, and derive how their story can spell out what might happen to main characters, ie. Dany. Jorah would surely be a member of Dany's Queensguard if she forgives him and accepts him back in her service. We know he is extremely loyal to his Queen. So if Jeor Mormont's dying wish is to come to fruition, Dany will more than likely have to die so Jorah feels like he is free to take the Black. I don't feel like he would trust anyone else to protect her if she is Queen.

Oh and I think once Jon claims Lightbringer, he will return Longclaw to Jorah.

Dany will have the best queens guard without a doubt then. Hell she already does.

The reason I have been having so little patience for the next installment is what has been happening on the Wall and in the North with Stannis. I'm still not convinced that Stannis isn't dead or close. I just really want to know what happened there. Plus, there's Stannis's Hand running around, The Lord of White Harbor, Mance, John in his wolf, and now the whole Aegon element. I can't wait to see what GRR Martin brings up next.

Crackpot theory: Tyrion is really Azor Ahai reborn, and he will end up as Dany's King and ride a dragon.

I seriously doubt he's dead at all. Ramsay is just trying to scare the piss out of Jon Snow and provoke him to anger and do something stupid. The only bit of truth in that letter is that he's captured Mance Rayder, and that Reek and "Arya" have escaped. The Boltons are just screwed without "Arya" being in their possession.

I still think the letter may have been written by Stannis himself with the help of Theon/Reek to draw Jon away from the Wall. Don't ask me what page it's on here ( ) but there's some stark similarities in some terms used in that letter and some things Theon/Reek says.

Theon's POV from Winds sets that theory up. I am starting to think the things Theon is saying are just a result of the mindf&*^ Ramsay put on him. I think Ramsay wrote it, has Mance, but the Stannis part is a lie. Can't wait to read it, but unfortunately no end is in sight.

If anyone has seen Silver Linings Playbook...spoilers

The scene where Bradley Cooper reads "Nikki's" letter and recognizes a previously used phrase by Tiffany made me instantly think of Theon telling Stannis that Ramsay wanted his Reek back and then seeing it in the letter from "Ramsay".

I know Lady Dustin has been discussed in this thread already, but I wanted to point something out that I noticed recently about Harwood Stout and Lady Dustin.

During the harvest feast in Winterfell in the second book, Hother "Whoresbane" Umber asks for ships to fight wildlings, and is told to work with Manderly and his fleet. So the Umbers probably have been in contact with the Manderlys since then, and they probably know of Bran/Rickon hiding in the crypts.

Then there is Harwood Stout, who is a petty lord and sworn to Lady Dustin. In a Theon chapter, he notices that "Elsewhere one-armed Harwood Stout talked quietly with the cadaverous Whoresbane Umber." (adwd, p. 536, kindle) Hmm, so what were they talking about? Ten pages later, Lady Dustin asks Theon to go to the Crypts… and notices that some of the swords have gone missing:

quote:

That king is missing his sword,” Lady Dustin observed.
...
Only a little farther on, three tombs were closely grouped together. That was where they halted. “Lord Rickard,” Lady Dustin observed, studying the central figure. The statue loomed above them— long-faced, bearded, solemn. He had the same stone eyes as the rest, but his looked sad. “He lacks a sword as well.”

It was true. “Someone has been down here stealing swords. Brandon’s is gone as well.”

Martin, George R.R. (2011-07-12). A Dance with Dragons: A Song of Ice and Fire: Book Five (p. 546). Random House, Inc.. Kindle Edition.

Also, Lady Dustin is a Ryswell, and they had men who were killed at the Red Wedding. Ramsey also killed her nephew, Domeric. So she hates Ned more for not bringing her husbands bones home than Ramsay who murdered her nephew and the Freys for the Red Wedding? Sorry, not buying it. I think that's just some cockapoo story to convince Theon she's loyal to Bolton.

She just wanted to go to the crypts to confirm if there were really swords missing from the crypts that Bran/Rickon took.

I think they are looking for an entrance for Stannis' men into Winterfell. The Battle of Winterfell will not be a battle at all-it will be a slaughter just as Ramsay had when he betrayed Theon & Ser Rodrik. The Freys will fall into the ice and Stannis' men will be led into Winterfell under the crypts where they will massacre Bolton troops along with the Umbers, Ryswell, Cerwyen, Manderly, etc. troops.

We are in agreement w Lady Dustin's intentions- she seems to me a Stark supporter working some "strategery"

Good catch about the Stout/Umber/ Manderly connection. I'd missed that. Makes sense that the Stark boys' whereabouts would be shared info in that circle, especially with the Bolton occupation at WF.
I've wondered if Lady D's trip to the crypts/ exchange w Theon had another purpose (besides talking to Ramsey thru Theon/ false fealty). Perhaps she was testing him? Seeing if any of the old Theon remained in this stinking shell he'd become? If any of the things she said made it back to Ramsey, she would have her answer, and one purpose served as well. If he kept quiet, there may be a chance he can be trusted...perhaps a motivation to redeem himself that could be exploited vs Boltons.
If this were the case, it's likely she brought Theon there to show him the missing swords...see what he does with the info...
Or to see if Theon himself would get itchy, giving her any indication that he was responsible for the missing blades - or at least is aiding the kids secretly. She knows he's as familiar with the secrets of the castle, having grown up in WF, as any of the Stark kids.
Just a thought.
