Nike Pulled These Betsy Ross Flag Sneakers Because Colin Kaepernick Complained About Them
© Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

According to The Wall Street Journal, Nike was all set to release the new Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July, which featured a logo of the original U.S. flag, the design of which by popular lore is credited to Betsy Ross, with 13 stars in a circle, but didn't. Why? Former NFL QB Colin Kaepernick old Nike it shouldn't use that version of the flag, as he and others consider it an offensive symbol due to its connection to a time when slavery was legal. Nike released a statement that went like this...
quote:

In a statement, Nike said it chose not to release the shoe "as it featured an old version of the American flag."

Nike released a second statement later Tuesday, saying, "We regularly make business decisions to withdraw initiatives, products and services. NIKE made the decision to halt distribution of the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July based on concerns that it could unintentionally offend and detract from the nation's patriotic holiday.

"Nike is a company proud of its American heritage and our continuing engagement supporting thousands of American athletes including the US Olympic team and US Soccer teams. We already employ 35,000 people in the U.S. and remain committed to creating jobs in the U.S., including a significant investment in an additional manufacturing center which will create 500 new jobs."

How can a self-hating moron who learned leftwing propaganda, as opposed to real legitimate history, have so much power over our lives?

Betsy Ross was a badass. Stop focusing on bull$hit sneakers Kaepernick & do something to help the kids living in Detroit. Do something real.

It also represents a fledgling government that puts checks and balances in place to allow itself to overcome such mistakes as slavery.

Frick Nikeeee, and their puppet Kaepernick. Their most recent market surveying for this new release must have indicated demand to be less than overwhelming. If Kaep can rile the masses, maybe they will be motivated to buy these shoes so Nike can continue laughing all the way to the bank.

Nike is getting a ton of free marketing with Kap. They are laughing all the way to the bank. I personally hate their messaging but they know snowflakes will buy their shoes in droves.

So you buy the notion that bad publicity is good for business? It's never smart to risk shrinking your market size if you rely on reoccurring purchases for survival. Smart thing to do was to let the fro racist know that many people still love America and what it stands for. Reality is, by closing your business to people you disagree with in favor of a segment you agree with, in time you will lose business, not gain it. You might get a short term bump from the side who likes you...but the long term enemies you create are working quietly against you and will use their resources to strengthen your competitors. Which helps Nike how? Unwittingly Nike is rebranding themselves as anti-white, anti-american, and a brand only for minorities.

You're absolutely right. There's no fricking way nike would do this, if for one moment they thought it was bad for business.

Yet, their stock has gone up and up and up... even since the kneeling nonsense...

What's the problem? Is he unable to kneel for a flag with only 13 stars? Or is it just too much of a hassle to have to take two knees everytime someone walks by wearing them?

Swore to never buy Nike again when they jumped on board with this ignoramus. Also, I now refuse to watch the NFL because of the flag kneeling flap and their weak response. Most I saw of the Super Bowl was the Thunderbirds flyover (in person, I live in Atlanta) and then went to the grocery store during the game.

The Betsy Ross flag was used as a symbol to protest against English colonialism. This is so fricking pathetic. As though I needed another reason not to buy Nike.
