BIG 10 Canceling Season Had To Do With Only 2 Medical Teams Being Comfortable Playing
Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports
According to the Lincoln Journal Star, the BIG 10's initial 12-2 vote to cancel the season was in line with a survey of each school’s medical teams. There were only two schools whose medical teams were comfortable playing: Nebraska and Iowa...

In other words, the BIG10 medical staffs at most were inadequately prepared, while med staffs at all SEC/ACC/BIG12 schools were proactive, ahead of the curve, overly prepared. That's called leadership from the top down. Big10 gonna have some heads rolled in next few months.

There were 264 COVID-19 deaths among 15-24 yo in US from February 2020 to 8/15/20 as per CDC 8/19/20 report. Over 46 million in that age group in US. In 2015 5,491 suicide deaths in that age group in US, so say 2,745 in 6 months, so more than 10 times the deaths from suicide. Unintentional deaths in 2015 (mostly MVA's) 12,514; or 6,257 in 6 months. Death by homicide in 2015 4,733; or 2.366 in 6 months. You want to protect kids? Greta. i am all for it. So work on those 3 categories first. COVID-19 is very deadly to people in certain groups at risk (like me). College age kids are not one of those groups. Let them play football. And remind them repeatedly, to stay away from high risk individuals they are aware of. (REF: LINK

Is there medical consensus that playing football is ever "safe"?

Further, the AD's had accurate info on myocarditis, but Warren did not allow the ADs to inform the medical group on sports medicine studies. Warren had them on separate Zoom arrays.

The fact that they utilize "Zoom" tells me all I need to know. Use Teams like any other group of actual professionals.

And the medical teams based their concerns on a flawed report on myocarditis. The Mayo Clinic specialist, Ackerman, promptly debunked the report the Big-10 relied on. "That means this is unacceptably spooky and dangerous to an otherwise healthy 18 to 24-year-old." Not fair. I could never do that with any paper I published saying, "Here are my findings in 50-year-olds, and these findings in 50-year-olds, I'm going to immediately apply to my 20-year-old patients and call that a 'fair game.'" Can't do that.”

Solely based on politics.

It doesn't explain shite. The fear of Social Media backlash is making physicians act irrationally. They are advocating for absolute zero risk activities over activities that are zero for practical purposes. By saying "no football" they are just covering their asses.

Exactly. Doctors will rarely ever provide a balanced risk view point in public. It’s almost always covering their arse.
