How the hell was the runner supposed to get to first? The umps have been terrible this year and it’s showing across the league.

You see the line to the left of the foul line? By rule the baserunner must run between those lines. It's a dumb rule. But that's the rule.

So he should have just trucked the 1st baseman? That's the only way he would have stayed between those lines. By staying on the outside, he actually gave the 1st baseman a chance to make a play on that ball.

"The batter-runner is permitted to exit the three-foot lane by means of a step, stride, reach or slide in the immediate vicinity of first base for the sole purpose of touching first base." So, exactly what he did. Last line of the rule you are referring to.

These umpires suck

You can argue that its a dumb rule, but the umpires ruled it correctly as it is written. LINK

Yea no, the rule is up for interpretation by the Umpire, and these umpires suck. He did not interfere with the first baseman making the catch, the throw was off target and hit him. The first baseman was set up on the outside, the throw came to the inside 3-4 feet off target.

By arguing for upholding this rule (a rule of interpretation) you are stating that the runner plowing into the first baseman is less of an interference than running in a straight line and getting hit by a bad throw. These umpires suck.

interference??? For running on the line straight to the base??? God, what a silly sport.

That same call happened to Turner in the WS vs Houston. Martinez was tossed then too.

Meh, pretty lame. Lou Piniella used to have way better melt downs.
