Best known for the play of the year, his one-handed snag of a touchdown pass while falling backward against Dallas, the first-round pick (12th overall) out of LSU easily won against a loaded rookie class. Beckham received 42 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the league.

Dallas Cowboys guard Zack Martin, selected to the Pro Bowl, got seven votes, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Mike Evans earned one.

These early exits from LSU to the NFL are the exact reason why the Tigers are not winning more games and in line for a NC. Plus there are other talented players who left before their respective graduation year. This talent cannot be replaced with equal experienced players. i.e. this is not L. Miles' fault. It is not so much the lost talent but the 3 yrs of lost experience. No coach can replace either the talent nor experience when losing so many players to early exits to the NFL.

They should just name them the Odell Beckham Jr. Play of the Year, and ROY awards. 54 records in his first season, Jersey in the Hall of Fame, most famous player in football this year, better stats than Calvin Johnson, and he just played the last 12 games. That is like running the Daytona 500 and spotting everyone 125 laps. He was doubled and that opened up Randle. But their offense needs 3+ legit WRs and Cruz was out. So, Beckham and Landry practiced all those circus catches that opened the running game for Hill and made Mett look good enough to be a 7th round pick.

locotiger, I was thinking about Jarvis Landry instead of OBJ. Stupid mistake on my part.

My bad locotiger, I could have sworn that the Saints drafted Cook before Beckham was taken by the Giants. Thanks for the info. Great to see all the ex-tigers have good years.

The NFL honored OBJ with Off. Rookie Of The Year from AP, Sporting News, and PFWA, and Play of the Year, which he dedicated to Landry, with his "The Catch" jersey and shoes in the HOF. He is the first wide receiver in NFL history to reach 1,000 yards after missing the season’s first three games - and he sat out the first four. In his acceptance speech he says "brothers Jarvis Landry and Jeremy Hill are here, the (LSU) "Royal Familia", without them I don't know where I would be." His famous mother LSU track star Heather Van Norman and former LSU football player Odell Sr accompanied him. She ran the world's fastest 4x400 relay of 1993 7 months after giving birth to Odell. Former LSU team mate Reuben Randle had his best season by far playing with OBJ, contributing 938 yds and 71 receptions. The SNF Catch made OBJ the most famous player in football and he has followed that with pre-game feats of skill: circus catches, rainbow soccer style kicks where he runs down the field and flips a football off the ground and into the air with his feet and then kicks it into the stands hands-free, catching 2 punts, 1 in each hand and throwing passes back with each hand, catching a pass between his legs, spinning a football then kicking a 31 yd field goal solo, kicking a 46 yd field goal at the pro bowl (55+ in length). At 5'11" he hit the genetic jackpot with his mother's sprinter's genes and incredibly large hands like Landry with whom he practiced his one-hand catches.

Misses 1/4th of season, tops 2013 stats: After missing the entire offseason, training camp, and the first four games of the season to two nasty tears in his right hamstring, Beckham took the league by storm, putting on one of the best displays of a rookie wideout ever. His 91 catches, 1,305 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven 100-yard games were in just the final 12 games. His famous one-handed catch was the play of the year, and one of the best catches in NFL history. He did this at less than 100% and "Plans to play healthy next year". In 2013 he had 1152 yds and 8 TDs in 13 games.
