Feleipe Franks' name is a very familiar one among LSU circles as many fans and coaches expected the highly recruited quarterback to come to Baton Rouge and give the Tigers the elite QB they were missing for so many years.

The Crawfordville, FL native was committed to LSU for 18-months but pulled his verbal pledge in November of 2015 when Les Miles' job was in jeopardy.

Miles was eventually fired four games into the 2016 season, his 12th with the school and recently revealed to The Advocate that negative recruiting by Florida head coach Jim McElwain is the reason why Franks flipped to the Gators.

Miles also added that LSU athletic director Joe Alleva always "talking with the press," didn't help the situation either.
quote:

“Somebody calls you and says, ‘Listen, I just got the head coaching job at Florida. I want you to come be my quarterback, and I’m not going to be fired,’” Miles said. “‘That Miles guy, he’s going to be fired. Handwriting is on the wall.’”

The instability of his job wasn’t the only reason Franks yanked his verbal pledge, Miles said. The hiring of McElwain, an offensive-minded coach, and the firing of Will Muschamp, who has a defensive background, helped too.

“They could paint a stable position, and I really … as soon as they got rid of Muschamp and went with McElwain, there was an offensive guy,” Miles said. “(The Franks family) felt like it was going to be different, and there was always a dark cloud hanging over my head as long as (athletic director) Joe Alleva was going to talk to the press.” Read more.
Franks has played in all four of Florida's games this year, passing for 557 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He will start at QB on Saturday vs. LSU, replacing QB Luke Del Rio who suffered a season-ending injury vs. Vanderbilt.

Title is missing the bigger point. McElwain used negative recruiting, yes, but the bigger issue is that Miles' position woes were public knowledge because Aleva couldn't STFU in front of the podium.

does it really matter? LSU fans here have already said they're glad he didn't go with LSU because of the way he's played so far.

Well. I mean. Is it "negative recruiting" if you tell a guy that a coach who SHOULD be fired probably will be?

Yes. Negative recruiting simply means that you are talking about the negative aspects of other programs more than the positive aspects of your own. It doesn't necessarily mean that you are lying.

Frankly, this is a bad look for Les. Not the first time.

How? Les is safe. If LSU fired you and you were watching your DL coach/replacement frick everything up, wouldn't you be singing like a bird? I think y'all all think he is just itching to get back into coaching but he's going to enjoy LSU's money for awhile.

We have an AD that can build stuff but hasn't a clue about coaches. It's the lsu boards fault that they didnt let him go before it was time to change the football coach. Now we are totally screwed...the good ole boys are completely in control again.

Really hate we didn't get Franks. A lot of LSU fans pissing on Franks don't understand that we missed on a big time talent when he didn't pick us. Of course he needed coaching up, and I doubt he would have gotten that here (especially last year).

Nor at Florida. He was benched 2 weeks ago and replaced by Del Rio, who suffered a season ending injury. Enter Franks again.

Franks would've been the second coming of Jordan Jefferson. Just a more awkward version, if that's possible. Right up Miles' alley.

Lol, and this is the typical mouth breather LSU fan comment.
