Former LSU and current San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid spoke with reporters on Sunday and explained why he resumed the protest of kneeling during the National Anthem.

Reid stood for the National Anthem during the 49ers first two preseason game this year but resumed his protest on Sunday. Per ForTheWin:
quote:

“What I was upset about was the false narrative being told about us. People were saying that we’re un-American, that we were against police entirely. And that just wasn’t true. At first, I thought that was a small sacrifice to pay to get the word out, to raise that awareness. And I settled with thinking raising that awareness was victory.

Then fast forward to Charlottesville and people see what an un-American protest really looks like. What Colin and Eli (Harold) and I did was peaceful protest fueled by faith in God to help make our country a better place. And I feel like I need to regain control of that narrative and not let people say what we’re doing is un-American. Because it’s not. It’s completely American. We’re doing it because want equality for everybody. We want our country to be a better place.”

So we're siding with "Neo" Nazis now? Wow, talk about disrespecting the flag and our brothers at arms....

If you dont know the answer to your question, you are beyond saving. If you do t think NeoNazis, the KKK and white supremacists are unamerican, than there is not anything to discuss. If your morality floor is below hatred and bigotry, you are in unAmerican as well.

Not siding with Antifa is not unAmerican. There are more than two sides of this. This thought of absolutism is insane. The far extremists on either side are unAmerican. frick antifa and frick the klan.

Find another way to protest. It's that simple

My employer will not let me have rebel flags in my truck YellowShoe, but I can ride anywhere I want to on my time with it in my truck just not on my employers dime... now keep politics and protesting out of NFL ... snowflake

Screw the NFL. Ratings dropped 25% last year and it had nothing to do with Peyton retiring.

You really believe that Kapernick's protest cost viewership?

You don't protest a police force by showing a lack of respect to the greatest country in the history of mankind. The country that has made you a multi millionaire. Please move to another country if you have it so bad in this one.

Why should he move when he has a legitimate justice claim in the country his ancestors built. FYI, . . . He is not protesting a police force. Do a little research.
user avatar
Mulerider81 months
Injustices to his ancestors? No one on earth has ancestors that did not have injustices produced against them. The USA has given Mr. Reid any other person that has had the honor to live in this country more opportunity to succeed than any nation or society in the history of mankind. If you want to see true injustice, visit Africa or South America. You know not what you speak of DocJerome.

He's got the rights to voice his opinions and beliefs. But people have also that same rights to disagree with him. Freedom goes both ways and he should know that.

Yet, you prefer he stay silent lest he make you feel uncomfortable. God forbid.

DocJ I see you comment on everyone's post apparently everyone has to agree with you... I have no problem with the protest just not in sports. The NFL is his employer, I have an employer that will not allow rebel flags and I respect that... same should go with Eric here... I wish more were like Jerry Jones

No respect for an individual like Reid. Walk the Bataan Death March, Rush the shores of Normandy or navigate mine fields in Iraq before you dishonor the American flag. Over paid and ignorant in my opinion.

Lets raise awareness of statistics and the ability for people to recognize the difference between activism and proper journalism. Blacks are not over represented in police shootings, you don't compare overall population percentages you compare to criminal population percentages and unfortunately black communities have much higher rates of crime and therefore will have much higher run in rates with the police. Men are shot 95% of the time by police despite making up 49% of the population, I don't hear people crying sexism. They understand that when it comes to violent crimes men commit the most, by far. But when it comes to race, forget the actual criminal statistics they (the main steam media) want to focus on population totals... Why? Because they're activists and not proper journalists and they have a narrative to create. Sadly Eric Reid has fallen for it.

Colin Kaepernick said he was protesting over police profiling and brutality but all the cases in the last 8 years that ended up leading to a riot and unrest we're from repeat criminals who rejected Authority and refused to be arrested and ended up being killed... you can't do that... let's protest the lack of fatherhood ?...something that will actually make a difference.

So in your F'd up racist world 12 year of Tamir Rie was a repeat criminal who rejected aythority? Or the guy in Wisconsin who was shot reaching for him wallet? Or the guy in SC who was shot in the back? I guess in the world you live in all blacks are repeat criminals who deserve the death sentence. I'd say that is par for the course of a typical white racist. Standard issue position. How does a supposed Christian justify the inhuman treatment of other humans? Demonize them and claim they are subhuman. That view becomes ingrained in the very fabric of their society where there is a constant justification for why they are barbaric in their treatment of others. That way they don't even have empath for the disparate treatment. They become soulless and heartless. The essence of evil.

You make how much money (because of this great country you live in and the people who have died for that flag) and the best thing you can do to try and make a difference is kneel during the national anthem?!?!? That is such a copout at this point. Do something that is going to make a difference if you truly want to make a change.

Seems like almost everyone protesting comes up with a different reason for protesting. How in the world can a protest be effective, when they can't even agree on why they're protesting. All of these guys need to get off of their knee and into their community if they really want change for the better.

And none of them have a plan for change. They just protest. All for publicity. The great Jim Brown was on tv and said these players should Not disgrace the Flag or Our Country. He said they should play football and leave politics out of it! Well said, Mr. Brown!
