Yahoo Sports writer Pat Forde spoke with LSU athletic director Joe Alleva on Wednesday and the two discussed Johnny Jones' job security as the head coach of the basketball team.

Alleva confirmed what many have already reported, saying that Jones will be back next year as head coach.

LSU finished with a 19-14 record this past season and missed the NCAA Tournament. Jones is 80-51 all-time as head coach at LSU.

The gap between football and baseball next year will suck because that's basically what it is

If you can't even make it to the tournament with that bunch, you don't deserve to be the head coach of a major program. Also, thanks for making Jim Hawthorne's farewell an unexpected, sputtering disappointment.

Simmons went to LSU because of associate head coach David Patrick who is Simmons' godfather. Victor and Blakeney went there because of Simmons. Had nothing to do with JJ.

Well all these programs with terrible coaches actually fire their coaches and hire much better head coaches. They don't put up with bull shite. Of course dumb bastard Joe Alleva doesn't have the balls to fire even the worst head coach in all of basketball because he's the only one that accepts mediocrity. frick you Joe Alleva and frick you too Johnny Jones. Yall both suck at what you do. 10 wins maximum is our best case scenario. fricking disgraceful.

Very cowardly and very wrong to retain an obvious DUD, I guess JJ needs time to buy back his 17 years glued to Dale Brown????

Of course he's staying...Alleva doesn't have the balls to fire anyone. What's frustrating to me is Alleva came from Duke...what is Duke known for?! You'd think this dumb-arse would at least get basketball right! You can't tell me LSU couldn't hire some mid-western coach that could come in here and actually coach (possibly draw up an inbounds play, maybe get T'd every now and then)...There needs to be a housecleaning in this athletic department...starting with the AD!

How JJ can possibly recruit going forward having so spectacularly failed with a top 10 recruiting class in today's era of one and done is beyond me.
