Its never a bad idea to set aside 4-6 months of living expenses in savings. Roth is a great idea, if eligible to contribute... Still wont solve his tax dilemma this year, but would pay off down the road in my opinion. ...

401k contributions have caps. Does your employer offer deferred compensation plan?...
Also keep in mind, startup business loans can be tough to be approved for in comparison to personal secured debt. Use Janky's formula, then proceed to make sure your credit is spot on. High net worth can be useless if your credit is poor. Be prepared to prove the assets, have at least 2 years of tax...
Also- do a little background on the advisor. They may have her only in mutual funds only because they are not licensed to sell individual stocks. ...
