re: Do you keep in touch with high school friends? - americanrealism
I do. I graduated in 2001 and I'm 33 now, but some of my best friends in high school are still my best friends today. One lives in Birmingham, one lives in Germany and a couple live around the Tuscaloosa area. I still try to talk to them at least once every couple of weeks and we hang out when we ca...

re: UK leaves EU - americanrealism
Ok, but that freedom of movement is a two way street. Brits had free access to any part of the EU, but people from any part of the EU had free access to the UK.
Not true. The UK was not part of the Schengen Area, so that part of EU policy did not apply to them. There were still bo...

re: What groups are considered "White"? - americanrealism
Race is a social construct, so mostly this is all a matter of opinion. In terms of anthropology the three subtypes of humans (at least when I was in school ~10 years ago) are Caucasoid, Negroid and Mongoloid, which roughly correspond to our ideas of white, black and asian. To the person who broug...

re: Game Of Thrones last night (Spoilers if you aren't caught up) - americanrealism
When the frick did they show Dorne?
There was one Dorne scene in the very first episode, when Ellaria Sand murders Doran Martell. After that they haven't come back to it at all. It's a shame that Dorne is so lame on the show when it's pretty badass by comparison in the books....

re: What is the worst argument you've heard for a postion you support? - americanrealism
There's no place in a civil world for an uncivil anything. Religion is among the most uncivil thing our society practices. Blood and sacrifices and offerings and relic practices. The sooner we abandon it the better for the majority of us who know it's what is needed.
I personally w...

re: Obama needs to step down - americanrealism
I haven't seen anyone in this thread mention that it's come out now that this guy was a closet case who had frequented the Pulse bar many times before this shooting. It doesn't really change anything but it does add a layer of self-hatred to his actions. The guy was secretly gay, had profiles on gay...

re: Is the term oriental offensive? - americanrealism
I will never understand why the white people pushback when other races express a preference for how they like being referred to. As if it's so much extra effort to honor their wishes and be polite. In truth, the people who whine about America becoming too PC are just annoying as those who are...

re: 2008 SEC Championship Game Highlights - americanrealism
Still the single hardest loss I have ever felt in my life. I was crushed for weeks.
I was in Texas visiting my parents. A lot of my extended family was going out to dinner that night. re: Is the term oriental offensive? - americanrealism
It's just outdated. "Oriental" refers to things like rugs and vases, whereas people are "Asian". It's almost like "colored". In an of itself that's not a crazy offensive word, but it wouldn't be exactly kosher to call a black person "colored" to their face....

re: Have You Ever Had A "Religious Experience?" - americanrealism
I don't adhere to any major religion and I could be considered pretty much agnostic. However I have experimented with psychedelics, and I can say I've experienced moments that I could call "spiritually significant". It sounds like a cop out but it would be pretty much impossible for me to write ...

re: NCAA Board of Directors rescinds ban on satellite camps - americanrealism
Meh. Alabama of all SEC schools has the least to worry about when it comes to recruiting. I don't know a single fan who is worried about B1G thinning our talent base. Saban already grabs 4 and 5-star guys from all over the country....
