re: State your favorite candidate and highest level of education - Ratsofftoyou on 12/16/15 at 10:10 am
Sanders (mildly support) - Ph.D physics I'm not too excited about any candidates really. I can't fathom wanting to vote for one the Republican candidates at this point. If I had to choose one though, I would say Rand or Pataki. Maybe the Green Party will actually gain more support in the futur...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: More CO2 in atmosphere now than in last 3 million years - Ratsofftoyou on 5/11/13 at 8:21 pm
We EXHALE CO2, Genius. It is NOT poisonous. It is NOT a pollutant. Common sense says that 400 parts per MILLION is insignificant, when the substance at issue is an organic by-product of BREATHING. I write damn code for dynamic models. im well versed in the academic literature on the subject...which if you actually were, youd understand the problems with the global warming models, and how this new data further shows how worthless those models that "prove" ag...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (2)
re: Climatologists are no Einsteins, says his successor - Ratsofftoyou on 4/6/13 at 10:51 am
Yes. And Freddy Gonzalez is the successor to Bobby Cox. That's the definition of the word.
Look, the reason it's worded that way is to give more credibility to Dyson in the article. He's in no way the greatest physicist since Einstein, but that's the idea it's giving. They could ha...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
Either a. The issue is that climatologists are using no resolution. b. They don't know how to account for them, or c. Both. In any case, for there to be so much variability and confusion regarding the science, it would seem logical that so many scoff at billions of dollars of schemes to l...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (7)
re: Climatologists are no Einsteins, says his successor - Ratsofftoyou on 4/6/13 at 10:40 am
Who was?
Well, I would reserve that title for a physicist who made great advances in theoretical physics rather than for someone who happened to hold the same position at Princeton. Someone like Hawking, Feynman , or Gerard 't Hooft, but I guess calling Dyson the successor to Einst...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: Climatologists are no Einsteins, says his successor - Ratsofftoyou on 4/6/13 at 10:28 am
Uhh, I wouldn't call Dyson a successor to Einstein...Also, physicists have an issue with thinking they are experts in every field (I am one, so I understand the sentiment). If Dyson feels so strongly about this, perhaps he should apply his expertise to the field to see what sort of results he obtain...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (5)
re: "God" Particle Found - Ratsofftoyou on 3/14/13 at 10:32 am
Sigh, the Higgs Boson is vitally important to the Standard Model of particle physics in that it provides the mechanism that gives particles their masses. A while back, one scientist referred to it as that "Goddamned particle" and then stupid science journalism shortened that to the "God particle". T...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (2)

So much [link=(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect)]Dunning-Kruger[/link] in this thread. Why don't you all go take a course in paleoclimatology or read some Geophysical Research Letters instead of proudly displaying your ignorance of topic at hand. Instead of rejecting the co...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: 19 year old fighting for Lousiana to keep science in the classroom - Ratsofftoyou on 1/17/13 at 12:48 pm
I imagine a lot of you who support this trojan horse of a law will quickly change your mind once someone starts teaching non-Christian creation. Regardless of how you feel about the validity of creation stories, though, they are not science. The answers provided in creationism were not arr...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (2)

re: General Relativity may have just been proven. - Ratsofftoyou on 8/30/12 at 10:24 pm
There's been a substantial amount of observations predicted by GR that have been observed. One of the key predictions that hasn't been directly confirmed however is the production of gravitational waves. GR is our best theory of gravity right now, so I think it's more accurate to say it was upheld r...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
The dude just said they should have every legal right a married couple does. The difference is calling it "married." Marriage originates from the covenant between a man, woman, and God. re: The flaw with gays attack on Religon. - Ratsofftoyou on 8/1/12 at 7:38 am
It amuses me so much to see the reversal being employed by the evangelical in this country. The 'gays attack on religion'? Right because gay people are forcing people to get gay-married and not allowing traditional marriage to continue. Give me a break. I'm totally fine with those who do not approve...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (3)
re: How does the Higgs have mass? - Ratsofftoyou on 7/14/12 at 12:40 pm
The Higgs boson is the minimum excitation of the ever pervasive Higgs field. Interacting with the field is what gives all the particles their masses. Field interactions are mediated by what are dubbed 'virtual' bosons. For electricity and magnetism, this boson is known as the photon. Two charged...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
